Okay I'm not even in the University of Scranton yet, but I may transfer after a year or two to a better well known school. I really wanted to go to a school with a name thats known for its scientific research. Sadly my ACT score and GPA were not good for it. As you can see by the name I aimed high hahahaa. So now I have a few questions. Typically on average how long do you have to be in college in order to transfer to another? Do colleges still look at your ACT scores or just your college GPA? Is it typically harder to transfer to a college rather then going from high school? Schools I'm interested in transferring to if it comes down to it, Fordham, Northeastern, possibly one ivy, and maybe Boston College. Again I have to see if I like Scranton but I'm always open.

It’s possible but you need to retake your ACT if you want a legitimate chance. For Fordham and Northeastern, your ACT won’t matter as much although I’d presume you would need a 25+ to have a very good chance. In terms of BC or Cornell, you’ll need a 30+ more than likely.

You could retake your ACT in college?

Yup. I’m almost certain you can retake the ACT whenever you would like; even if you’re a 60 year-old retired man.

From what I’ve gathered though is that if you plan on transferring after two years, your SATs hold very little weight.

hahaa I would not want to retake the ACT as an old man. I really don’t want to go through the whole thing again so I’ll leave it at that. The last guy said they hold very little weight so i won’t take it again.

O i also have two sat subject tests both 600+ will that help? It didn’t help the first time unfortunately.

I’d say do REALLY WELL in whatever U/CC you attend & then you will have the best possible options. Get to know your instructors so they can write glowing letters & you can find your passion(s). Get involved in ECs you care about, which will also help you in your job search.
My D applied to her dream U after 1 semester of CC in which she earned a 3.8 (got 1 B & 4 As). She was accepted to start school after she had completed 3 semesters of CC. She had decent SAT scores but fairly low HS grades due to chronic health issues. She saved us quite a bit of money & was able to explore at CC, where she did well and got a lot of her general ed grad requirements satisfied.

You can ask your HS & Scranton’s GC for more advice on the subject, as you won’t be the 1st to attempt to transfer. You may wish to consult the Us you’re considering transferring to about which courses might transfer–my D did that & most of her courses DID transfer. Good luck!

In general, the college GPA is the most important thing. I think your time would better be spent toward improving GPA. Only if you hit 4.0 (with rigorous course load) should you retake SATs/ACTs.

Are you planning on going to grad school? Work on GPAs and GREs.

Kayf- yes i plan to go to med school.

Also does Fordham and Northeastern even take credit from the U of S? I don’t want to spend money on a year of school then transfer to a school where I have to start all over again.

If you apply for transfer admissions, I believe Cornell will not take into account a retaken ACT after high school. You should e-mail the office of admissions. Good luck man!

Thanksss Cordova

yea I looked at Fordham’s website and it said that if you went to college for a year or more the ACT and SAT are not required.
