I've been reading the undergraduate admissions requirements for some of the schools I'm applying to, and none of them require the subject tests, or they require it with the ACT in lieu of the SAT I if the applicant wishes to do so. I always thought it was important, but it seems sort of irrelevant, at least to me, especially since the top 2 schools I'm applying to (Cornell and NYU) do not require subject tests.

Some of the schools in Cornell require subject tests, some don’t, it depends on what major you are applying as. I’m not sure why you seem concerned about this though, looking through your posting history, I see that you said you have a 740 and a 780, both of which are excellent scores.

If a school requires or “strongly recommends” subject tests, you should assume they matter and treat them with the same importance you treat the rest of your application.
