So how is Florida International University?

Is it actually pretty INTERNATIONAL like the name says? Is there a large percentage of international students?

ALSO, does fiu give out much merit...and is it a somewhat prestigious college?

What are your OPINIONS about this university?

I live right by it, I can tell you it a commuter school. I don’t go to the school but from what I have seen alot of Hindu’s who walk back and forth to school. Also alot of hispanic students like Cubans and other nationalities. If your from the midwest it feels like a gateway to Latin America because the majority of the students are hispanic.

How is the weather?

I do like the warmth, but I don’t know how I would like 80s and 90s for a longer time than I’m used to. Do you find the heat/humidness/muggyness annoying or do you like it?

For some people there is no weather like South Florida weather. Always hot, always humid and always predictable. It is fairly tropical there. No seasons. Always summer and always green.

As far as FIU is concerned, the school has made some great advances in the last two decades but within the Florida system is probably the worst one and the least competitive. Anyone gets accepted there. The school just got a brand new Med School and it is really trying to boost its reputation.

FIU started as a 2 year college in the 70s and became a 4 year university in the late 70s. They tried to change the name to University of Florida, Miami at one point, but a lot of faculty opposed it because the school already had a certain recognized name. The students are from all over the world but I get the feel that mostly south americans.
