Yup -- I was wondering how some people looked so fresh and stylish after all of our "profusely sweating" dorm adventures, before I remembered that most moved in Sat rather than Sun. Guess it wasn't hard to tell us apart ;)

One more prop for the Bookstore -- it's among the top 1% in the nation based on the financial contributions it makes to the university. Just think about the business education the student workers are getting along with their paychecks.

I wish my kiddo got w/s at the bookstore. She's been assigned to the Williams School, I assume to do admin stuff. Actually my friends' kids say the best job in terms of actually studying is at the gym as an ID checker on Sat or Sun AM.

That top 1% figure is because of the genius of the people who work there (who do it not for the money but out of love for the school), the bookstore looked completely different 4/5 years ago, and made much less money. Because of the diversification of the store and their addition of "special" stores such as Vinyard Vines, Polo (added last year, to be expanded), and Under Armour (to be added this year), they are able to make a nice profit for the university while still keeping book prices low.

Yeah best work-study jobs are places like the gym, the library, the health center, or any academic deparments (C-School included). It's mostly study and very little work.

Love that VV stuff. Wish they had more VV for women. Now the bookstore just needs to contract the Pennington and Bailes Stadium pants and skirt in the trident for the fall.

I couldn't believe they had a far better selection of Polo colors than any other college bookstore I've been in, including Wake and UVa. Plus the new UnderArmour is "awesome" (official declaration of three sons) - and the shorts aren't even in yet.

Dedication -- check. When I mentioned to the manager that all they need now is a W&L doormat, he replied, "well, a doormat is something that would say UVa on it. An accent mat would say W&L." He loved the idea and went to his desk to write it down!

That is a sweet bookstore. Daughter and I were drooling over the clothes, but there wasn't time to really check it all out if we wanted to finish setting up her room. Parents weekend for sure.

Hi-

I noticed you'd like to see Pennington & Bailes do W&L Stadium Pants. I would too! My buddy and I started the company and we'd definitely like to make Stadium Pants and skirts with the W&L trident!

TB, I pm'ed you.

Small CC world! You go Motherdear!

These are awesome pants -- I showed them to our friends whose son is a freshman at Clemson and best friend to my W&L son. I believe the order has been placed! And no doubt there would be an order or two from our family if W&L starts to carry them. How great would pants/shorts look with the Trident?

And for the women, bermuda shorts or skirts that hit just above the knee.

We checked in on a glorious Saturday this past weekend. "Ernesto" had cleared out, the sun was brilliant, and the temperature was pleasant for unloading and unpacking the last of the Class of 2010. President Ruscio was working hard himself in his jeans to help those student helpers. While our S was registering, we unloaded the car and all his stuff was in the G-Lees room by 9:30.

We could not feel more proud or at ease for our student! The parent meeting and address from Ruscio and Dean Leonard only cemented what we had known. We will sleep comfortably knowing that our student is very well taken care of!

The W&L community is a class act!

Wow...it's been a whirlwind of a first term. We have exams in a few weeks and go on Thanksgiving break tomorrow (after my killer Jour 101 exam).

Personally I couldn't be happier. I love the lacrosse team, the girls on my floor, and the people overall. My classes are challenging and I am struggling to keep up but part of that is the classes I'm in and the adjustment to college studying. It's certainly work hard play hard here. Parties every night if I wanted to and it's hard to prioritize but once I got over the initial excitement I realized being a student comes first.

With rush coming up soon there's an excitement in the air...and that's all I can say about that!

I met Dima on move in day, he's actually in one of my classes. I went to Roanoke too...who's your son?
