I have SPOP 4 next week and was just wondering what it was like, for those of you who have already gone. Anything that stood out? Anything interesting? Any Advice to the rest of us who will be going soon?

Great experience! better than I expected.
Just have fun and put yourself out there, its a great opportunity to meet people and get a taste of college life.
I also suggest you stay up all night and hang out with your staff and other SPOPpers cause you’ll have a lot of fun as well as get to know them. Important part of SPOP that many people miss out on by going to bed early.

akclements pretty much summed it up.

Be open, say hello to complete strangers because they’re in the same boat as you are and there were a lot of shy people around, be involved in the activities. and yes. STAY UP LATE. how late am i talking about? a lot of people in my dorm didn’t go to bed until 4 AM after a long day…some of the staffers only got 1-2 hours of sleep because they had such an awesome time…you might feel like crap the next day, but it’s all worth it.

alright i will stay up late for sure! thanks for the advice guys
oh and another question, was it stressful picking classes? or is it pretty much laid out for you depending on your major? Do counselors help you out?
Thanks!

it was BOMB. play all the games fersure and stay up late. i stayed up til 5 worth it tho

classes are pretty much laid out for you. you’ll have your core classes you have to take for your major, and then you probably will just have to choose a GE class

i have a friend that is going to ucsd and he said they were split up into groups of about 10 people, is that the case at UCI or is it completely different?

I’m pretty much all UCs (or at least I know UCSD & UCSB does) split you up into groups of about … at least 10 people depending on your majors for academic advising and stuff.

SPOP was the best experience EVER. I stayed up all night too and wow. I would do it all over again, hahaha! I teared up at the end of SPOP too! Let everything be a mystery for you people who haven’t gone to SPOP yet, it’s really worth the wait So try not to find out exactly what you do at orientation! Honestly, just be yourself at SPOP and be ready for lots of fun!

It was TONS OF FUN!! Yeah stay up late! HAHA I stayed up till 5 then woke at 7 to get ready for breakfast.

Classes are layed out for you depending on major. So don’t need to stress about that. Just the times and not having an hour or 2 gap inbetween classes. I got all of mine from 9-12 and I’m taking 16 units. Good luck!

As for how groups are split into, I’d say at first you’re split into groups of about 50 for your major. Then for your dorm name you’re split into about 30. Most people meet most of their friends in the dorms and end up clique-ing with them.
