Most of the applications are in at this point and many have even finished auditioning. Just thought I would check in and see how the process of searching for a college for your dancer, from a parent's or a dancer's perspective, is going. I'll start. My daughter did not audition in the fall due to injury. She has applied to several schools for dance--ballet emphasis--and has received academic acceptance to those that divide the process. Beginning last week, she has done two auditions for the schools that came to our area, but starting next week will be auditioning "on the road". Most weekends until mid March will involve either travel to auditions or performances at home. Luckily it's last semester of senior year, but I don't think she'll be at school for many Fridays in the forseeable future. At least all this activity takes the focus off agonizing over the results and when they'll be mailed.
How's it going for others?

hi, my dd got accepted into Shenandoah University, did not get into Chapman(because of SATs) not dance, and we are waiting to hear from UArts. We started the application process at many schools and decided for one reason or another she did not want to audition. She will probably go to UArts if she gets in. Good Luck!

My daughter was accepted to Bard College by their Immediate Decision Plan back in November, and that’s where she’ll be going. Bard doesn’t require auditions. Good wishes go out to all of you still dealing with auditions and waiting for acceptances. Good luck!

None of my daughter’s schools require auditions to get in (i.e., not conservatory type schools), but three do require auditions to get scholarships. All three auditions are this month! She had to write up a dance resume and get recommendations from teachers. Last week she took a private class with one of her teachers to get ready for the auditions. One of the schools is where we live, so at least there are only two plane trips this month. As for getting in, all but one of her applications was RD, so we haven’t heard any decisions yet. Congrats to those of you who have acceptances in hand!

Dancer has just finished third audition. Has three more all in New York City. Did Fordham, the Arts and Michigan. Has NYU, Marymount and Julliard to go. But the pressure is now off because got accepted at Michigan during interview today.

Congrats katlynskrew. That really takes the pressure off. Good luck with the others.

Congrats katlynskrew, having that first full acceptance makes the rest of the audtions fun.

Update from our process. Auditions are finished. D has been accepted at LINES/Dominican, U of Utah and SUNY Purchase for ballet. Rejected by Butler and waiting to hear from Indiana and Tisch. So far she has excellent scholarships from a dance and a non-dance school that she likes (Utah and Pitt) so the pressure is off. Remaining schools are all reaches but she is not agonizing since she feels great about her options so far. Now to decide if dance is what she really wants. Good luck to all and congrats to those who have heard good things.

@quill–Congratulations to both you and your daughter! I know how much work it is to travel for dance auditions as we did the same. My daughter auditioned for and was accepted to: CalArts, Chapman, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara. Her first choice is CalArts, but waiting to hear of FinAid. Chapman gave her a Dean’s scholarship.

Congratulations to all.
I auditioned at UofUtah(accepted with scholarship), UofIndiana (accepted into Jacobs with academic scholarship), UC’s (SB, Irvine, SD, Berkley, SC - all accepted). I am going to UC Irvine - loved the program, teachers and it is close to home

That’s great, JollyGee! Congratulations on your great options. Best of luck at Irvine.

Omigosh, Dominican/LINES? Wow!

Hamster2 I hope you get good financial aid news soon. Your daughter has some great choices. Mine has now heard from all the dance programs she applied to–today brought a rejection from Indiana but an acceptance from NYU Tisch. Glad they on the same day; it’s good to get served a little acceptance with your rejection.
