so I can't see into the future .... but maybe you can? Pton, Yale .. Hopkins.

thanks for looking!

high school is top 20 in the nation.

gpa: 91 - 92 unweighted. school doesn't weigh.
Freshman year - 84 avg. / 90 avg. i dont kno what to do about it, i don't wanna look like i'm making excuses on my college apps .. but to break it down, psychiatric problem in the family, parent lost a job.
Soph. year - 91 avg / 96 avg
Junior year - 3 ap's, ap bio/ap physics b/ap us. "hardest courseload" says my GC. hope she puts it in the rec. 91 avg / 91 avg (85's in apbio/apphys .. 3's on both AP's. yeah, shoot me.)

senior year courseload - ap physics C, ap comp, ap mac, ap calc, and some required classes.

sat: 2250
sat 2's: physics - 760, math 2 - 780, lit - 750

ec's

president of the entire school!
senator / grade council representative the last 3 years.
president of the premedical society, last few years.
editor in chief of the physical science journal.
intel - biochemistry research for 3 years. 6 hrs/week
ARISTA (national honors society)
volunteering - 150 hours accumulated at a soup kitchen

eh. so i don't know what to do. i think i have decent ec's. i'm afraid about my grades. i improved alot, and i guess i went down junior year because of ap bio and ap physics. those classes with my ec's and campaigning for president put me at about an average of 3 hours of sleep. whatever, this isn't a thread to complain. i just want an honest opinion of where i can make it.

top choices: pton/yale
would love to be: COLUMBIA! / hopkins / DUKE
still up there: cornell / dartmouth / brown / uchicago

haha, i don't know where to apply early. i was almost set on applying early to hopkins, or cornell .. but i realized i wouldn't be content on risking whether or not i'd ever get to know if i woulda made it at pton or yale. at the same time though, i don't want to throw away an ED at a place where they'd throw out my app after a glance. my school sent about 10 kids to pton last year, and 4 to yale. they all had 95+ averages, with the exception of a few. if you were in my position, what would you guys do? will my app get decent face time for consideration? ehhh

chance me at all if you dare.
cheers 09'ers.

If you haven't already, choose some Safeties. I'd say chances are you get into at least 1 of those schools listed, but the fact remains that all of those schools are slight reaches for almost everybody.

Do you have any idea about your class rank? That would help us evaluate your GPA.

Your test scores are good, as are your ECs. The science focus is good.

But I'd still repeat, all those schools are at least low reaches. Put some safeties up there.

I don't rly know much so I won't chance but I don't really see a point in early decision esp. when you are applyig to so many good schools and so you can view all of your financial aid options together.(you don't want to be stuck at a school you can't afford)

haha i have alot of safeties. just wanted to know about those schools.
the school doesn't rank or calculate percentages, so .. the only things that colleges use to evaluate GPA's are the applications they get, i'm guessing.

Hmmm...well, 9 reach schools is a lot to apply to. Especially UChicago, since its essays are known to be both important and challenging/time-consuming.

Anyway, the general advice for picking an ED school is - do NOT pick it unless you would REALLY like to go there. It is, after all, binding.

mcubed23.

well, at this point i'm taking out loans for any school i go to. i'm willing to take out loans to cover full tuition at any of those schools, and .. well, i'm scared to NOT apply ED anywhere. it increases your shot at most of those schools, and i don't wanna give that up. its just a question of where i can put it at greatest use...

I think you're best chances for admittance ED would be Cornell or Duke.

If you have gotten anywhere with intel, your chances are significantly increased imo for Columbia.

haha really? its a pretty good project, but you don't really get results or anything until midway through decision making. i think i'll send in an abstract ..
