So, I don't have a blank line. *tears*

I've rummaged through the last 2000 threads made about the topic, and have found a lot of conflicting information. I think that while an early blank line is very good, a late one isn't.

And I don't have one. My decision hasn't been made yet, aye?

Can someone lend some insight? Thanks.

you’re probably in committee and they’re debating whether to accept you or not

Oh no, I don’t have one either. I hope they decide to accept us!

none here either. don’t worry; they’ll get to us.

My folder hasn’t even been pulled. No updates since “Application Complete” back in January.

Maybe no blank line means we’re accepted… :P

Hey, can you guys post your stats, just so we might be able to deduce something perhaps?

I’m a 2230 superscored SAT 1 Math2 720 Phy 800, IB 38/45 final points, very good essays and recs, nice ECs.

Also, I called admissions office and asked that me having NO blank line is an issue or not. HAHA. Imagine that eh. But they said that a blank line or no blank lines doesn’t mean anything at ALL. I wonder how true this is. So many people swear by the blank line :S

I have 2240 SAT I/SAT II Math 2 750, French 700, bad Physics (long story), 3.85 UW GPA, unranked at large public high-performing high school in IA, I like my essay and my recs are probably good, Eagle Scout, few ECs but long-term, had interview in June that was probably not the best, applied to CFA for Architecture.
I’d consider CMU a reach for me because of my terrible Physics score so I’m sort of expecting rejection. But please don’t think that I mean that for any of you, I doubt that this blank line issue has much to do with our acceptances. They just may not have gotten to ours yet. They do have another week I guess…

Thanks. I don’t think you’re a weak candidate at all. Even if your physics score is bad, it still won’t affect you that much, will it?

I’m not quite aware of how good CFA at CMU is, so I can’t tell if it’s a reach or a match. You really look like someone who would stand a good chance at acceptance, at least with the given info.

I don’t mean to get your hopes up though…it’s better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground (paragliding mantra).

I’m not sure I like admission departments very much. They promote anti-stress meds :x

Heh yeah. This month is a killer. I’ve been obsessively checking “Where Am I in the Process?” at least twice a day, it is pretty bad. One week until decisions sounds like an eternity…

Thank you for the compliments. I don’t know how anything is weighted but I do know that I was required to take a science SAT II so it must matter a little? Hard to tell.

From your info, I’d say you are qualified enough for CMU. I don’t see anything there that seems negative. But college admissions are totally random so I won’t guarantee you a spot or anything. Maybe I should tell you instead that you don’t stand a chance so that you won’t be as worried about it ;)

Anyone else care to post stats? The only trend I see between our info seems to be a roughly 2200-ish SAT score and that is pretty meaningless…

My stats suck compared to ya’ll.

33 ACT, 3.8 UW GPA, 730 Math SATII, bad Physics (long story too! ;p)
I’m a lacrosse captain and a bass player in my school’s jazz band. I also run track and cross country, and have been in my school’s Asian club all four years. My essay for CMU was pretty good, I thought. I don’t know how much it matters, but I go to the #1 ranked high school in Illinois and one of the top 10 (20?) in the country ranked by Newsweek. I’m pretty positive my recs are good, except I messed up - I realized that it said they wanted one, so I CANCELLED one because I wanted to make sure they read my one that I’m positive is excellent…then I realized they said you should submit a few. Oh well.

I applied to SCS, though, so I probably screwed myself. I’m not really expecting to get in. If I don’t get into CMU SCS, I refuse to pay 40k for tuition (for ECE or EE) when I can go to UIUC and pay like 16k. ;p One thing I have going for me is that I took a logic+hardware class, which I understand very few high schools offer.

Edit: According to a conversion chart I found, a 33 ACT is “about” a 2190 SAT. Hah.

Your stats do not suck. I only sent one recommendation letter too… Also: hooray for embarrassing SAT II Physics scores!! :D

I can’t afford it either. I’m hoping for a substantial financial aid package that I quite frankly know I won’t get. I’m probably going in-state, even though I really don’t want to, but I’m holding out for CMU. I’m sure they want to give me a full-ride ;)

Wait, I thought that Carnegie Mellon didn’t do merit-based financial aid.

Yeah man, 40k a year is LUDICROUS.

I’ve got nothing either… oh well. I thought my scores and such made CMU a match, but who knows.

@juliet capulet: They have a very, very limited number of merit scholarships. I’m just hoping for need-based aid.

@shougan: Don’t take it as a rejection! No one really knows what it means. For all we know, they just forgot to add the blank line.

I had a 520 SAT II physics score when I had my interview. I was kind of honest about it being bad to the adcom, and didnt really try to make excuses. I brought it up the second time a few months later to a 550 after I took it cold (first time i really studied.)

I was in like bottom 15th percentile nationally(still). If thats not embarrassing, I dont know what is.

I got in.

Thank you for posting that! That is reassuring. (I got a 530.)

Way better.

SAT1: Math- 620, Reading- 640, Writing- 590= 1850
SATII: MathI- 590, MathII- 520, Literature- 530, Physics- 550

Everything here is superscored, and every score was sent to the school.
I think you have a better GPA, because I had an 80% in AP Bio- final average (Only AP before Senior Year). This marking period though, im sitting at a 98.5 average without the college courses(dont ask… i improved my game after sophmore year).
Also, my high school isnt competitive.

Dont worry about it dude.

For all you guys who didn’t get a blank line yet, the ones of you who have posted your stats really have nothing to worry about. Did you see the average SAT scores and rankings of people who have gotten in the past?

Here’s the link: [Admission Statistics](Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University)

Your scores are amazing compared the average ones! My guess is that they just haven’t gotten around to reading your application yet.

Hmm…I had additional information submitted over the weekend. On 3-10 they listed general correspondence, which I assumed was the additional information. When I checked last night, 3-11, 3-10 was all it showed. But, when I checked today, 3-12, it showed a blank line under my 3-10 for 3-9

Weird. Any idea what this means?
