I don’t have a blank line either. I am applying as an International Student from India. I know one person in my class who has the blank line and I am quite sure my stats are better than his.

Good recommendations, good essays. Regional level Physics, Maths and Informatics Olympiads and other Innovation Foundation Competitions. Applied CIT-ECE and to SCS (2nd choice)

Over 90% from 9th grade to mid 12th grade. Not looking for merit-based scholarships.

@ metalforever and juliet capulet: Well thank you My confidence has been shaken this week due to being waitlisted at my 2nd choice, so I really didn’t expect anything better at CMU, considering it’s about the same caliber school. But I will keep my hopes up and maybe I’ll hear some good news next Friday?

@ ysbera: Your stats are amazing, and your application must be great too if you were already accepted at WashU. They must not have read your application yet…

SAT1 - 2110 (ok i guess)
SAT2 - Bio 800, Math2 800, Chem 760(long story…)

I’m an international, so we dont use a CGPA system, but I scored all As in my final high school exam and they translated it to a 4.0 (though I didnt do as well in my earlier years :S ) President of the Taekwondo club, state debator, involved in various co-cu activities. A few people liked my application essay, the only issue they had with it was length. Was about 1k words for my Commonapp essay D:

applying to the SCS… man this feels like such a long shot.

So the first wave will hit on Friday right? Do they send out emails?

I’ve noticed that many people who didn’t have their application pulled for a “commitee read” early don’t have the blank line. So I think that everyone is correct saying that a decision has been made.

My application was pulled on January 30? I believe, and my blank line was entered a day after my midyears went in. It seems logical, though, it never says I turned in my transcript and “Where Am I in The Process?” still hasn’t said my application is complete.

I just checked again, and now I’m pretty confident my blank line is a good thing.

I received “Folder Pulled committee read” on january 9. I’m guessing at that point they were undecided. My blank line is dated the same day they received my additional materials, March 9.

My additional materials could only be regarded as positive, so if they are infact what prompted my blank line I can only imagine it’s a good decision.

My folder was pulled on Jan. 9th too and I don’t have a blank line. I have a decent-ish if not slightly low SAT score but I have a really good GPA (in context of my school that is). I hope I don’t get bad news!

My S applied in November, “folder pulled comte read” December 12 and blank line February 13. Decent application with maybe a push from the xcountry coach and one of his AP/EA professors last summer. By no means a sure thing.

A blank line is neither a good thing nor a bad thing if you are a mid-range student! The only times you can deduce ANYTHING from a blank line are if: 1.) You are a great student who’s almost certain to get in, and the blank line appears early, OR 2.) If you are a horrible student who’s reaching pretty far for CMU and the line appears early.

All the blank line means is that some sort of decision was made. When it was made really makes little difference unless you fall into the extremes. And the fact that ALL it means is that a decision was made (good, bad, or otherwise) was confirmed by an admissions advisor for me from CMU. GregoryHouse said that they told him that not having a blank line was neither a good nor bad thing, and that certianly is true. But that’s just a round-about way of saying it so that they don’t have to say exactly what having one means. Because it IS true that having one doesn’t matter. They can make acceptances at ANY time, and they can also change their decision at ANY time after the blank line has already appeared.

So really, just don’t worry what having one means or doesn’t mean. There’s no real way to deduce your decision ahead of time based on when the line was posted or not! Admissions wants us to know our results according to their schedule, and I’m sure that they wouldn’t let something slip into the online results page to let us know what the decision early. They’re certainly better prepared and more intelligent than that.

Besides, what’s the point fretting about it if we’re all just gonna find out in about a week anyways? :p

i checked my page every day like 5 times. I never saw the blank line until yesterday. The date was recorded as Mar 04. For those who don’t have the blank line yet, CMU has made the decisions but just didn’t put it up yet so don’t worry.

Still no blank line…though I’m pretty sure I’m in the middle/lower-middle of the pack. We’ll find out soon enough. I’ve already decided that the extra 24k yearly (vs. UIUC) for everything is enough to make me not feel bad if I don’t get in, though.

So . . . what does Jan. 09 folder pulled committee read and Feb. 19 blank line mean? (HSS)
SAT: 2210 (Math: 740, Crit. Reading: 730, Essay: 740)
SATII: U.S. History: 700, Literature: 790
I think my essay was well-written and at least somewhat interesting, and I do enough school clubs and volunteering . . .

The blank line on Feb. 19th indicates that that was the day your decision was made. It could be an accept or reject or waitlist, but given your stats i’d say you are probably in. Lafayette, you should call and clarify as soon as possible that your application is actually complete… If it isn’t there may not be anything that you can do at this point, but if it is complete you will at least have that peace of mind.
