i already put this under "what are my chances" but i forgot to add JHU

But yeah, do i EVEN STAND A CHANCE? should i just not apply because it will be a waste of money?

I dont really have any awards besides the generic honor roll

i want to apply for pre med

ps. should i also totally forget about applying for early action?

JHU has early decision versus early action. You have a good chance if you can crank out good essays/recommendations.

cool, should i bother taking the SAT 1's?

r u planning to go into biomed engineering?

cuz if u apply early and get into the school, but not the major, ur not obligated to go -- if i am correct.

ur stats can get u into the ring, u just need stellar essays to separate urself from ur competition.

so are my stats a little low and so i have to resort to writting good essays or is this just the norm for any applicant?

i think you have a descent shot! ~ 50% of ED applicants to JHU get accepted-- but know that these are some pretty impressive students and athletes.

applying "premed" "bio" etc, might hurt your chances. I would just apply "undecided" and decide if you are accepted

good luck-- it's worth the money :)

It's definitely worth the money, especially considering JHU gave out a lot of fee waivers to RD applicants last year (I don't know why).

JHU has become very selective, but I think you have a good chance. Start writing essays NOW (or as soon as they release them). IB is always a plus on an application, and you seem to have a fairly solid courseload (I wish my school offered HL Math!). SAT I isn't necessary, especially with all the confusion about the new SAT, but good SAT IIs are a definite plus. Like PalmBeach said, don't apply as pre-med or bio. Applying as another science major (chem?) would be a good choice, because JHU can see from your app you're interested in science/medicine (200 hrs volunteering at a hospital- kinda obvious :) ). Good luck!

will my class rank hurt me?

just dont report class rank...

i have a choice of reporting my class rank...? also, does early decision significantly higher my chances? i realize that the acceptance rate is higher for ED but isnt the applicant pool more competitve than the RD applicant pool?

nevertheless, does anyone know of any "perfect" match schools or schools i can consider safties or just any i should consider applying to?

the parents forum is great for helping you find "safeties," and "safeties" that you will like

Early Decision WILL increase your chances.. . yes the ED applicant pool is strong, but your strong interest in JHU is a plus. Say, if you are even deferred, they will still know that you are serious about attending JHU and this will be to your advantage.

GoodLuck :)

can i apply as undecided and then switch to premed? or does undecidded look bad?

No...applying undecided will not look bad and you can easily switch to any other major (except for BME). Applying for a certain major will not help/hurt your chances unless you specify BME. Hopkins does not offer a Pre-Med major, but instead it is a track (taking specific classes that will make you eligible for med school admission). If you want to be a Pre-Med you still need to pursue a major.

why will applying BME straightout hurt your chances?

1) If you want to do BME you MUST apply as a BME major. Transferring into the major is extremely difficult.

2) The BME program is very selective, so you might not be admitted to BME. However, it is possible to be admitted to JHU but not BME.

3) If you apply ED to JHU as a BME major and are accepted to JHU but not BME, you are released from your commitment to attend JHU.

i think you have a decent shot, definately apply, other than the app. fee there's no reason why you shouldn't...and i'd hate for you to regret later about not applying

and yay for bharatnatyam! :-)
lol i think kamini would be happy too

what is a good SAT to have for BME hopefulls
