I plan on applying to BC (EA), BU, Tufts, JH, GW, Brandeis, Dartmouth, MIT (EA), Harvard, Brown, McGill, Northeastern (EA).
I know its a long list, but financial aid is imperative for me
So...what do you think? Am I on the right track. Where should I put my emphasis in my application? I appreciate all of your help.

Couple of comments...Your ECs are impressive. So are your GPA and class rank. Your SATs are pretty good, but not superlative, which make your acceptance at the Ivies, Stanford, MIT, etc. problematical. Remember, nearly all the kids who apply to these schools have grades, SATs, and ECs at least as good as yours.

Anyway, chances based on your current stats:

BC - Low Match/Safety
BU - Low Match/Safety
Tufts - Match
JH - Match
GW - Safety
Brandeis - Low Match/Safety
Dartmouth - Mid reach
MIT - Reach
Harvard - Reach
Brown - Low Reach
McGill - ?
Northeastern - Safety

If financial aid is imperative for you, do not apply AE anywhere. In general, if you apply AE and are accepted, you are compelled to withdraw all other applications and go to the school that accepted you AE, whether or not the school offers you financial aid. Also, you are less likely to get financial aid in the form of scholarships and grants from the top schools (Harvard, Brown, etc.) than from somewhat less selective schools (BC, BU, Brandeis, GW, etc.). In fact, if you're looking for scholarship money and your goal is med school, you may want to look for a less selective school with a successful pre-med program that would love to have a kid of your calibre attend and that would be willing to give you substantial scholarship money. You also might want to look at a less selective school with a good Honors program. They frequently offer scholarship money to draw in kids like you.

Finally, take a look at Washington University in St. Louis. US News ranked it #12. Academically, it's on the same level as Dartmouth, Cornell, U of Chicago, Brown and Northwestern. The kids there are smart and friendly, the faculty and admnistration really care about the kids, the facilities are first rate, the dorms are stunning, and it's got a large endowment and is pretty liberal with financial aid.

Oops. Forgot to mention that WashU has one of the best pre-med programs in the country.

Thank you for the reply. I am applying for the honors program at BC...even though there isn't really an application process for that as well as GW and the Pofessor's program at BU. The schools that I am applying to, especially not the ivies have been known to give a large amount of money such as BU, Brandeis, and GW. I am wary about the rest of my college choices especially since I come from a single parent family who I don't want to burden with the very expensive college tuitions for my long prospective medical education.

I will definitely look into Washinton U since I am still very open to my choices in applications.

I will retake my SATs and ACTs to make them near par with other applicants and try my best. The rest is, well, up to luck, chance, etc.

As far as I know GW doesn't give that much money. Not as much as NYU. But I agree that Brandeis and BU have very generous merit aid offers.

Another oops. My advice on financial aid and EA is wrong. I was thinking ED when I wrote it. If you apply ED and are accepted, you are compelled to withdraw all other applications and go to the school that accepted you ED, whether or not the school offers you financial aid. If you apply EA and are accepted, it's a different ball game. As far as I understand it, you do not have to withdraw your other apps and you can decide to go elsewhere if you're accepted elsewhere.

Sorry about the mixup.

thanks for the correction:)
any other advisors??

McGill- safety

i thought mcgill was difficult to get into because I am considered an international applicant?

Oh yeah... Sorry, I sometimes lose perspective, but your GPA is good enough and your SAT's are above the minimum range.
http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/undergrad2007-08/usa/

thank you that was informative

Unless you get better scores:
BC - Low Match
BU - Match
Tufts - Reach
JH - Reach
GW - Match
Brandeis - Match
Dartmouth - Super Reach
MIT - Super Reach
Harvard - Super Reach
Brown - Super Reach
McGill - Match
Northeastern - Safety

A 1490 is fine for MIT. Don't worry about it.

awww thanks! I am in love with MIT... It is a phenominal school! Now days, schools like it are wicked competitive. I didn't think I even had a chance.

Do you qualify forr need based aid or are you seeking merit aid. For merit aid your stats should be close to the top 15% of the applicant pool nfor a serious chance. If need based, focus on the schools that meet 100% or are not known to gap.

I qualify for need and merit based at several universities based on their posted stats, so hopefully I am in a safe position. The higher instituions are well-known in providing good aid for families who qualify.

anymore advice? please do help!
Thanks

I don't have advice, however I have a question. What is it about NE that appeals to you?

NE is a fine institution which seems to be academically and financially matched with my family. It also has a good medical program offers research opportunities. As opposed to my other college choices, NE is definitely one of the least selective. I realize that this may not be a very good reason to apply to NE, but I do need to apply to schools, that, God forbid if my family is not in a good situation, can go through. It has the academics, and that is what really counts.

I hope that kind of helps,
