My school is a board prep school, meaning they prep us for the CIE A level boards. Our grades on transcripts are exam grades. No assignments or stuff.
The first quarter, i got a D in one subject (2 A* in the other two). The reason i got a D was that my dad suffered heart failure a week before my exams. I missed all the classes leading up to the exam. Would have failed but a friend was willing to teach me the important stuff the morning before the exam as exam was in afternoon. Luckily, wat he taught me turned out to be half the test. Anyways, for the midterm, i got an A in that same subject. Should i mention my situation? Will colleges accept it as a valid excuse?
Btw, this D is the only thing pulling my gpa down.
Sorry for the lengthy post, and thanks for any help

No you should not mention it because there will be no way that you can write about it in a way that foes not come off as an excuse.

You should definitely meet with your counselor to have him/her explain your situation.

When your dad first got sick, did you/ your mom inform the school, teachers or counselor?

I meant have my counselor mention it. I wasnt gonna write about it in my essay obviously. And yea, my counselor knows. She told me at the time to just do my best
