And as a senior i am taking an incredibly hard AP Calc class and an AP Bio class. I basically took these classes to increase my chances of getting into UCD, UCI, or UCSC and now that i am an ELC student i am worrying about these classes. My AP Calc teacher is *[edited for language], *and passing his class is no piece of cake. Basically, is it worth it to take these possibly stressful classes if i know i will get into the schools i want? I am basing this "i know" on the 2008 ELC guaranteed admission schools. Should i drop calc?

Is dual-enrollment an option?

To the OP:
I guess the real question is, are there campuses & colleges other than the mid-level UC's that you are equally or more interested in keeping your options open for?
That is the first factor to consider. If that is not a consideration, the second factor is this: Even with a guaranteed (or virtually guaranteed) admission to one or several UC campuses, any UC campus can rescind a student (& does) for a very bad grade. However, you need to define "bad grade." That's not a B, & probably not even a C. A D or an F is another question. Accepted students who are not even ELC can have their admission rescinded for low senior grades in one or more courses.
There is not a higher bar for ELC than for other students. Recission is recission; the same standards would apply to everyone.
Your ELC status was determined before this, your senior year. Your senior year class selection was not figured into the equation, nor will your senior year grades affect your ELC status.
If I were you, I would call the ELC office, also, about your concerns, regarding your senior year program. They will probably put your mind at ease. You'll need to have your ELC i.d. number handy when you make that call. The phone number of the ELC office directly is what you want, & that's on the information packet you rec'd.

If you are thinking you may get a D or F in either of these classes, I would drop them ASAP. Remember, your UC application listing your senior classes is like a contract, and you cannot drop one of them senior spring without risking your admission. So, much better to drop now before you are committed to them for the year. On the other hand, do you have enough math and lab science for the UC requirements without these classes?

Yes i believe i have satisfied my lab and math requirements. I have 2 years of a lab science, AP Bio being my third, and 4 years of a math AP Calc being my 5th. And honestly, yes, i am worried about receiving a D in AP Calc. I have been reassured by countless students telling me that this is just what blank does, and he will help out if i am in trouble. (He'll supposedly give students a C if they try their best.) I really don't want that pressure though. Currently i have a 65 % after blank's week 1 "weed out" process of daily 100 point 4 question quizzes. I hate making these decisions. I want AP Calc. I enjoy the challenge. I don't enjoy the stress, and i DONT want this to screw me over. Man this sucks.

BHadoC -- sounds like blank is purposefully extra tough the first week or two. I assume he lightens up after this "weed out" period your mention?

P.S. ELC guarantees you what... Merced, Riverside or Santa Cruz? or do you get Irvine and Davis in there too?

P.P.S. I would recommend dropping a couple of grand, if you can afford it, on a weekly tutor for Calculus. I would be really surprised if you did not get at least a B, and much more importantly, get a firm grip on Calculus, with a little supplemental help. The teacher makes all the difference in the world in leading a student to the point where it all fits together... where it makes total sense.
