Freshman currently.

Have to take math1b, so that is one of my classes next sem. I guess i could take it another sem, but I'd rather finish it off this sem so I'm done with math lol.

Chem3a/with lab? is that hard? would you recommend taking this with 1b, since i heard 1b is a killer?

what about bio1b? I don't remember seeing any pre-reqs. Also, is this class easy?

*Obviously, I wont take chem3a and bio1b at the same time. Trying to decide between the two.

Also thinking about an american cultures class and finishing off the next half of my R and C requirement. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Also plan on going full force and getting involved in organizations. Plan to apply for research internships too, maybe.

I recommend either taking Chem 3A/L + Bio 1B or Chem 3A/L + Math 1B. Chem shouldn’t be too bad but it is pretty time-consuming. The difficulty of math 1b really depends on the professor. Bio 1B is probably the easiest MCB/premed prerequisite but the grading is pretty wacky so it’s hard to get an A in it (but you can get a B with minimal work/effort). Soo either way that should bring you to 9 units, and then just add an R&C class or an AC class. You don’t have to take both… you still have 6 semesters after this year!!!

Ok, i decided to take chem3a and math 1b. The chem 3a lab lecture and the lab i will take in the summer, since it doesn’t fit in my sched. Is that a good idea?

Ok, now what should I phase 1?

I have math1b, chem3a lecture, an r and c course (2nd half), and espm 50AC class.

thanks.

I’m don’t want to take Bio1b and chem3a/L along with Math1B…that is overkill…

The problem is, there is a freaking lecture for the lab for chem3a too, in addition to the lab…and the classes I want to take interfere with the times. So, I thought I would take the chem3aL and the lab lecture in the summer, which would be better for me I guess.

But my question is, out of Math1B, the r and c course, the american cultures class, and chem3a lecture, what should I phase 1?

Also, it is stupid that there have to be 2 phases. Why can’t we just add everything we want to take in one phase…

Ok, i’ll back off on espm. I’ll take the R and C just to finish it off. Or what do you recommend? Which one is heavier in terms of writing and stuff? Also, the R and C is supposedly easy…I checked on course rank, it had an average of A. Plus, a lot of people say it is easy.

Ok, so I’ll do:

Math1B (4 units)
Chem3A/Chem3AL with lab lecture (5 units)
Bio1B (4 units o.O)
R and C (4 units)

17 units total…I’m currently taking 13 units, and I find chem1a to be hard, especially the 2nd midterm, although I got an A-/B+ on the 1st.

Ok, is that a good idea?

And what do I phase 1? phase 2?

Wait…Bio1B is at 8…it conflicts with my schedule…■■■■

and isn’t there a Bio1B lab too…

Ok, how about this? I seriously don’t know…

Math1B
the RandC course
Chem3A/3aL
and something else…

and take Bio1B during summer? everything conflicts with the times…

Summer school really isn’t that bad. If you feel yourself already struggling with Chem 1A, I wouldn’t take on that 17 unit load next spring. Just hold off on one of your three pre-reqs (Math 1B or Bio 1B) and do two. It’s better to get 2 A’s in those pre-reqs and have to take summer school than taking all three next spring and getting 3 C’s.

Thanks for the advice misterelephante. It isn’t that I’m struggling with chem1A. It is just that the 2nd midterm was incredibly unexpected. They barely asked anything that they taught, it was incredibly confusing and I have no idea what I got. But I have a suspicion that I got a C or lower.

I am not going to take Bio1B since the lab clashes with my schedule. I will take it in the summer.

But the classes I am taking are:

Math1B
Chem3A with lab
and RandC 2nd half

13 units total. But I am already taking 13 units this semester, shouldn’t I take more (atleast 14-15) next?

And nobody answered my original question: what should i phase 1 or phase 2?

If 13 units seem too little, then just add on another 2 or 3 unit lecture-only class (i.e. some breadth classes if you haven’t satisfied those yet). As for the phase I or phase II, the general rule of thumb is that biology/pre-med pre-reqs fill up REALLY FAST. Actually, any major pre-reqs fill up really fast so definitely phase I those. And then everything else will most likely be ok for phase II.

In your case, Chem 3A/L fills up really fast. That’s a phase I. Phase I Math 1B as well. There are a lot of R and C classes so there’s a strong chance that you will get into one if you phase II it (though, not necessarily into the one that’s your first choice).

Taking 13 units is fine. Phase 1 chem 3AL, math 1B, and your R&C class. If you really want you can add a 2-3 unit class that fulfills some breadth that you can just take P/NP.

So phase 1 chem3a with lab and math1b? so 9 units then. I really want to take the r and c class though…why can’t they just let us phase 1 all of our classes…why split it up? makes life more stressful

Ok, I’ll take ESPM 50ac…

so, i should still phase 1 math and chem right?

Wait, why would I be screwed if i only take 13 units? I thought AP credits act like a cushion.

I got 4s on ap calc ab, ap government, ap bio, apush. and a 3 on ap language.

Anyway, finalized schedule

Math1B
Chem3a with chem3aL
ESPM 50AC
RandC 2nd half

17 units. Espm and randc that i chose have an average of A- and A respectively. So i suppose it will be easy.

And i still phase 1 math and chem right?

Oh also, one more thing lol. To anyone who has taken Math1B, espm50AC, and chem3a, when are the midterms usually? it doesnt say on the schedule, and I don’t want it to clash with other midterms, because that would suck.

Phase 2 chem3a? Is that a good idea? It won’t fill up right?

I don’t think you’d get ESPM50AC with Phase II

thus, why i hate how this is split up into two. i don’t understand why they can’t just do one phase…

because this is a public university and we’re underfunded.
