Kind of curious. My counselor was nice enough to show me the letter and ask me to read it over before sending it in.

Nonetheless I included a cover letter for all my teachers invited, reminding them of the deadline. I will submit my application on time, but what if they fail to do so?

If your teacher was courteous enough to show you the letter she had written, I think it is unlikely that she would let the deadline slip, don’t you? But for what it’s worth, if a college’s deadline is November 1, that does not mean that on November 2 they sit down and read every application. Assembling and reading files is a process that takes many weeks. While I would hope that all teachers who commit to writing for students would also commit to meeting deadlines, if they fail to do so–or if the letter gets misfiled, or if it gets delayed in the mail–the “late” arrival will not be held against the student.
