According to Princeton Review, the average GPA at Columbia is a 3.64, the average at NYU is a 3.75 and the average at UPenn is 3.7, meaning HALF the people got into those schools with GPAs lower than the averages I just mentioned. One B will do nothing, as long as everything else is a B+/A-/A.
I believe you are confusing median with mean.</p>
<p>You are of course right that FNS has them mixed up, but mean and median are often close to each other.</p>
