So I just submitted my application...

Well I will in about 20 minutes when I finish entering my grades.

I don't want to go into WHY. However, I did write a not in the additional info. saying, "Finally, please excuse this application from being late. I will understand if you don't. It's just that I have been sick lately which has prevented me from making the January 10th deadline."

So, does that mean my app. will automatically be tossed?

Never known anyone who got a waiver for being late, but you never know. I'd call admissions tomorrow. You'll have to let us know...

Part of me doesn't want to do that.

I actually turned in several of my apps a couple hours late via common app. So um yeah, I don't know...I feel like if I'm rejected I can look at it as, "Well it's because I turned my app in late!"

Then again, why would a college penalize you for being a couple hours late (referring to other apps here) when they will still have your app when they get up the next morning. I've sent in all my paper stuff on time. (I know about the responsibility thing, yada yada yada).

i dont think hours late will hurt. Actually, almost every college has their deadline a few hours after the "real" one because the amount of last minute applicants can overload servers, so they usually extend to be fair.

days later...that's iffy

errrr u had like 3-4 months in advance to do it.

if you were permitted to send it (I'm assuming online, not through mail), I think it wouldn't be a big deal. I understand the hesitation to call and ask

"errrr u had like 3-4 months in advance to do it."

Err, I know. I'm perfectly aware of that. That's really not what I was asking.

To be honest, it's kind of a thing you want to debate. There could be a chance where you could just submit it and nothing bad may happen. However, there is also the chance that they will realize and penalize you.

Furthermore by calling them, you point out your mistake and make it blatant, as previously said, they may not have noticed or wished to penalize you. You may also sound like you are making excuses, which is something that you most definitely (are not) and would not wish to do.

Really, the call is upon you.

You should call and ask. Let's just say they toss the application. Would you rather wait 6 agonizing months for a response and get turned away? Or have closure now?

USC admissions are really understanding and I'm sure they would make a note on your application to prevent it from being tossed cause you missed the deadline.
