for the second time. I think I did much better on the CR & Writing, but actually did worse on the math. I want to retake the test again in December, but I'm curious as to how this will affect my application.

What I want to know is if I can still apply EA (which has the Nov. 1 deadline), but send in Dec. 6 scores, and if those would even be considered. Also, does Fordham super score the SAT? I tried searching the website for an answer, but couldn't find one.

Oh, and since I've already made a new topic: My essay is around 1200-1300 words. I've already shortened it as far as I could, and even gave it to two teachers to proofread/help me edit. They've both said they think that everything I have is vital to the essay, and that the adcoms won't lose interest while reading it. I also e-mailed the admissions office, and they said the standard is 500-700, but anything over that wouldn't be held against me. The problem is that on the YC app, the text box cuts my essay off by 1000 characters. Should I mail/fax/e-mail the essay separately or something? What do you guys think?

to your essay:
Try and cut it down as much as you can, the shorter (while retaining the same information) the better. Remember your essay will only be looked at for 1-2 minutes and if it drags on too long they will stop reading it. Make it about 2 pages (double spaced) or 1 page single spaced and that should provide enough room for your essay but short enough for the admins to read through

I believe they superscore. Apply EA. Sign up for the December test. But wait for the October scores. You can always cancel your December test appointment if you are satisfied. I dont think the December scores get there in time.

But maybe they do. You will hear something by Christmas.

Rest assured, the admissions counselor will not stop reading your essay - they may be bored or unimpressed with quite a few of them, but they will be read in their entirety. As a matter of fact, your essay and entire app will be read by at least two counselors.

Are you using the Your Choice? I know with the common app, you upload your essay as a word document and there is no word limit, at least there wasn't last year, but it will cost you $$.

Fordham definitely superscores the SAT, and I doubt the December SAT scores will be there before the EA decisions are made. The acceptance letters arrived last year around 12/22, so you can assume most of the decisions are made early/mid December in order to coordinate the mailings. So, you can try to send in December scores, but they may not see them before they make a decision.

I just checked my d's essay, she had 668 words. That is 2 pages double spaced. Yours must be 4-5 pages double spaced. I would say that is excessive. You have to remember the admissions counselor will be reading thousands of applications. They are people like you and me, and personal preferences can play a factor. You may get an adcom who doesn't mind reading an essay that is twice as long as everyone else's or then again you may get one who would be annoyed with the length before they start reading it.

That is just my opinion, and you will need to decide on your own whether or not you want to edit. If it was my daughter's/son's essay, I would advise them to shorten it.

Thanks. I've decided not to register for the Dec. test, if they won't see it anyway. And yes, the essay was 4 pages double spaced; that's what had me so worried. I'm going to try and cut it down.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm hoping to have my app in by the end of this week.
