I’m a girl and I think Megan Fox is hot. ;D

That said, it’s not like Bay gave her many opportunities to actually act, you know. I think she complained about that in an interview somewhere.

^ Okay fine, I give up. What about my chances anyone? Damn losing stinks.

another girl over here but freida pinto ftw most definitely. slumdog was so great.

i’m not one to give chances but i will say that presidential scholars is hard to get into freshman year (which includes the scholarship) from a competitive school. i read that they choose the top 5% of the entering cas class and based on what i’m not sure. going into nyu my gpa was 3.8 and 2190 SATs, 790 SAT Math II and i got into cas regular but not scholars. i went to a relatively competitive high school and i have a friend who went to a “joke high school” and got into scholars freshman year. i had a few friends like that who went to easier high schools so their gpas were higher. then her gpa wasn’t high enough this year and she got kicked out for sophomore year (but got to keep her scholarship money). i applied for sophomore scholars and got in but unfortunately they didn’t give me any money.

about freshman honors, if you mean freshman honors seminars any cas student can take them. they just call them honors because it’s supposed to be “an honor” to take them. they’re completely elective (which is something to consider if you think scheduling will be a problem) but they’re a great way to get close to a professor for future research prospects, etc. the seminar i took was with a professor in the medical school and he was really willing to help us all out in research opportunities and recommendations and stuff. those classes are first come first serve so it’s best to have an early orientation date (i had session E and a lot of them were closed).

^ THANK YOU. You helped clear a lot of stuff up! Finally someone has a similar opinion about Pinto like I do lol. I really want the presidential honors, it would be amazing if I could get in. NYU was my dream school since 8th grade, and it might become a dream come true.

megan fox is so overrated!

^ Thank you lol

Wow missamericanpie, with all the sensible things you say on these forums, I thought you would at least have good taste in women :p

^ No way, I back her up on Megan Fox. She is definitely overrated.

megan fox is hot. but definitely overrated.

haha… i really think both of them are great and hot-- body-wise.
but on full lips megan tops freida.

just to throw it out there.

This thread is so old! lol

Anyways, does anyone want to chance me please??

i won’t chance you but i’ll break down the presidential scholarship for you. After you receive your acceptance letter to NYU, the presidential letter comes a few weeks later. My friend was a presidential scholar at CAS and she said, she received no money for being a presidential scholar. Being a presidential scholar has a lot of requirements and you need to have at least a 3.5-3.6 GPA to stay in the program depending on what school you are in. They require you to take an honors seminar and meet every 2 weeks with your “group” to discuss specific topics. The only perk you get for being a scholar is, you receive a week’s vacation during winter vacation and the title of being a presidential scholar. Most people get kicked out of the scholarship program cause its a pain keeping the 3.6. This is for CAS only. the presidential scholarship program is different according to what school you go to.

Is it honestly that difficult to keep a 3.6?? I guess there were not as many benefits to being a presidential scholar as I thought. Can you explain exactly why it is hard, or what one can do to be successful at NYU?

@nuclear

sometimes it’s just stuff you can’t control, no matter how much you try; the curve of a test, how mean a grader is feeling at the moment, the questions on a test. a 3.7 is an A-. all As and A-s? (no A+s at NYU). i mean, i’ve gotten A- as final grades when i went into the final with an A cumulative in the class. i’ve had professors rip apart my final papers, then justify the A-. (aaaaaaaaaargh damn you video game class!!!)

that’s not say it isn’t possible, people do graduate with latin honors and as presidental scholars, but to have a 3.6 constantly is a huge task.

most people (including my one friend who was a presidential scholar) just stay in it long enough to get the free spring break that commentcomment mentioned. then my friend got booted from scholars when he had a 3.4 or something.

i’m banging my head against a wall right now because i have something like a 3.3 cumulative and a 3.5 in major and i’m trying to get into grad school, ugh.

just to add to what missamericanpie said. you do not have as many opportunities to improve your grades as you do in high school. some classes you get 2 exams. 1 midterm and 1 final. if you screw up on one of them, you just destroyed your GPA. also, you do not get credit for class participation or class attendance in a lot of lecture courses so your grades are solely based on your exam scores.

Of course there are a lot of people who keep their 3.6+ but that depends on the type of student you are and how important your grades are and what type of career you want to pursue.

If you are doing pre-med and plan on applying to medical school or law school and grad or want to pursue a career in investment banking, having a presidential scholar title is beneficial. Otherwise anything above a 3.0 with work experience will be fine.

^Oh wow, thanks for the wake up call commentcomment and missamericanpie!

yeah, i’ve had classes where your final grade was two tests and two papers. NO extra credit, NO participation and absolutely NO wavering on those terms.

i’ve had nightmarish classes where my grade was based on one paper. :-(

^ Well I will be sure to never take those classes lol

Hey!! I’m applying ED too, I love the school but have never been there though! How is it?
I think you’ll probably get in! I wish you (and myself :p)the best of luck!
