So I live in Arizona

I live in Arizona and submitted at 11:00 PM on 1/1… so the Common App said I submitted on 1/2 (I forgot about everything being EST). Should I contact the regioinal admissions counselor and just check up on my application?

To be honest, I didn’t think I was going to apply to Brown because it is in the Ivy League and I thought you basically had to have hooks to get in. After talking to family back east over Christmas, I was convinced to apply. That’s why I submitted so late. Can I tell admissions this so that they know my late application is not for lack of interest?

Thanks.

Also, I know they say that additional recommendations are not encouraged, but would it be okay to send one if it emphasizes a particular passion? I would like to work for a nonprofit company bringing medicine to developing countries. To supplement this interest, I interned at a nonprofit last summer. I know my mentor would write a good letter about my work ethic and integrity. Should I submit this?

Thanks again (feel free to answer any questions you can).

I can't imagine they would care why it's late unless it was something out of your control.

bump... especially the question about the recommendation letter

Your application is not "late." Brown was nice and said they would keep it up a few extra days for students who had difficulties.

Don't call them. They are very busy and probably don't care why you submitted it late (not to be mean or anything....but they would either reject the application or let it be reviewed regardless of reason for uniformity)

Keep in mind that these people have to read 5-6 (if you did the optional one then 6) essays, 3 recs (2 teacher + 1 gc), plus a resume, grade report, etc. If you don't think they will have an idea from you after this, well, I guess send the extra one. But they have at least 8 essays already, so I think they will have a pretty good picture. If you think it will significantly help them see who you are, then add it.
