I live in Oklahoma (central time) and submitted my Duke Supplement at 11:05 which is 12:05 Eastern (Duke) time. The common app site considered this as being sent on 12/11. Could I still qualify for an interview if I missed the deadline by 5 minutes, and only because of a time zone difference? I assume I won't be contacted for an interview, so should I contact admissions and explain my case, or would that just compound the problem? Thanks in advance!

I honestly wouldn't worry. They want to interview as many people as they can. I submitted mine late two years ago and they still gave me an interview.

Hey fellow Okie! I read in some book by a Duke admissions lady that most interviews don't hold any weight at all.

I don't think you should contact admissions because it will be challenging to explain why you left something as important as the application supplement until the last minute. They won't be empathetic.

they still try to give out interviews to ppl even after the deadline, i think it's just like a recommended deadline

also, it was just the supplement right? lol the commonapp wasn't necessary right?

i submitted my app a couple of days before the deadline last year but didn't get an interview...i still got in RD and am a student at Duke now. I don't think it matters.

Sent mine in a couple days late (after December 15) and still got an interview.

5 minutes doesn't matter, it all has to be keyed into the Duke admissions system anyway and that takes days. Really, the deadline is more of a guideline...it just means that the longer you wait to submit your application the further behind you will get in the line ("line" meaning the stack of data needing to be entered into people's files and processed). You will probably still get an interview.

interviews don't matter and are optional anyways, so don't worry about it
