so I retained my rights..

I chose not to waive my rights because on reading the option it said that we'd be able to read the recs AFTER we leave HS.
Will colleges react badly to this option
If so, do I have to make a new common app to not waive rights?

I’ve always heard that you’re supposed to waive the right. I don’t know of anyone who didn’t. I’m not 100 percent sure, but I think that colleges might worry that it affected the accuracy of your recs.

A Yale admissions officer indicated that they do react negatively to those who waive the right.

^I think you have it backwards. They react negatively to those who do NOT waive the right. Everyone waives the right.

Yes, my apologies.

I’m in the exact same position. I did that part carelessly and now regret it. What should I do?

ok so I think it would be best to make another account on common app and apply through there. I havn’t submitted anything yet fortunately.
Will it be a problem if all the colleges are currently communicating with me on one e-mail id but i send them another one through the commonapp?

holy ****, commonapp doesn’t even allow you to make another account with the same name. GOD, now what.
And I’m applying early to Yale of all places…

Is it really a big deal if you don’t waive it? They’ll actually react negatively…?

asljkahfdjh I have the same problem except worse…the teachers at my school refuse to write recs for kids who don’t waive…gahhhh

Wow kenzie, I’m in the same position. :frowning:

Help!!!

Does anyone have a solution to our woes?

someone named keylime pie posted this tonight in a different thread. I haven’t double checked the info but it might lead you to a solution…

Go to “Contact Us” page of the Common Application. Click on “Follow us on Facebook”. On their Facebook page go to Support tab and search for FERPA. The search results should have “I would like to change my waiver of access (FERPA) with the Common Application” topic.

If you have not already done so, click Help from within your account and follow the steps for contacting support. Let them know the details of your situation, and ask if there is any way to reverse your decision.

fuuuuuu I’m applying to Yale too, and I made the same mistake. I guess I’ll just have to see what happens. I haven’t even seen any of my recs…

I made the same mistake but I submitted a ticket and they fixed mine within 5 hours. If you don’t know how to get there, login and click “help” at the top right corner.
Click “contact support” in the middle of the page.Select a category “Signature and submission” and then click on “my answer is not here”, there will appear a ticket, solve it and then send asking them that your teachers are not willing to write recommendations since you didn’t waive your right. I hope they will fix it after few hours.

^ I can’t change mine because I already submitted one of my teacher’s recommendations.

I just e-mailed them. I hope they change it :frowning: I didn’t know that not waiving my rights could hurt my chances! I also thought that it only applied AFTER the applicant is matriculated into university! This is SO unfair-Common App should have made it clearer for applicants. Now I’m really, really, really worried.
