It really was kind of an interview (which I'm glad I anticipated). She was very friendly and fun to talk to, so I think I made a good impression. General questions about school, what I plan to do, the influences on my life, accomplishments~ aaah. A brief question-answer exchange~ I have this huge adrenaline rush now. :3

Twenty days, guys, twenty days.

Anyone else have their phone interview? How'd it go?

And you say that it was "like an interview." True, but it is mostly a two-way information exchange. The alum just needs enough info to write a little blurb about you, which is viewed but probably not considered in admission. Best of luck.

no it's not an eslap, i remember getting a letter from my "alumni ambassador" and reading "I am an alumna" and thinking OMG TYPO!!!! only to ask my mom and find out that stuff... even if one isn't a latin student, i think we all should have gotten that really basic stuff in HS somewhere...it's so useful.

My friend and I had the same interviewer, who happens to be the dean of an 'international college' in Korea. One of the questions he asked my my friend was 'so, why didn't you apply to my school'! lol. Are they allowed to ask questions like that, in a Cornell interview!? I supposed he didn't bother asking me because I had said to him that I hadn't considered colleges in Korea a possibility since I was 11.

Wait!!! How do you know if it's a phone interview?!?!?! I got a phone call from Cornell a couple weeks before the application was due, and the woman was all "Hi I'm a rep from Cornell and we saw that you are interested in the College of Human Ecology.. do you have any questions?" Our conversation lasted all of 5 minutes...

I WONDER IF THIS WAS MY INTERVIEW?? Do they normally call up randomly? Or was it just a general thing they do to all Human Ecology applicants just to hook them? I hadn't even turned in my app so I don't know how they would "evaluate" it or even write a little blurb...

There is no such thing as an INTERVIEW per se, unless you're applying to the Hotel School. They are INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS only.

Fjchowdhury: That very well might have been your "alum meeting." It doesn't count for admission, so don't worry about it. I know this because I fill out the interview forms myself.

Edit: Many students are never contacted at all. It all depends upon the numbers and availability of the alumni in your network.

ahh, okay thanks. :) It was really weird of them to call up randomly like that, now that I think of it, I wish I had said more. But I did ask some good questions, I think.

I guess they do it so kids don't freak out about it and go all crazy about preparing for the "interview," as I might have very well done if they had given me earlier notice, lol

However, the Cornell admissions community values comments from our alumni that may shed light on any unusual circumstances or experiences encountered by an applicant, or that may speak to an applicant's focus or commitment to Cornell and/or a particular program of study.
