so..i suck at standardized tests...

... i. love. penn.

but. i suck. at. standardized. tests.
i am no where near the caliber that usual ivy applicants are (sat/act wise)

and so..i have a friend, who has a 34 on his act.. also applying to penn. sighh...
i can't help but compare us... i'm not gonna get in...

wanna know how sucky my scores are? don't judge me, please...i've studied A LOT for these tests..and well, i guess things never work out for me in the end as much as i hope...

1st SAT ( 670 CR/ 700 Math/ 700 Writing-11 essay)
2nd SAT (650 CR/ 700 Math/ 670 Writing -10 essay)

^^ that alone.... wow.... i FAIL...i can't believe i did worse.

anyway..

SAT II (740 Chem/ 760 Math II/ 630 Spanish<--- hah....)

1st ACT: 29
2nd ACT: 29
3rd ACT: 31

so yea..it really depresses me... i really want Penn.

my rank..is good..i guess.. 4/425 ish
my extracurricular... intense pianist.. i've won awards regionally and internationally, etc..recently applied for the presidential scholar in the arts program/award (my main EC..depth.. hah..yea..)..

...internship at a hospital, volunteer, yada yada yada...
clubs at school....

so yea..maybe i need some sympathy? no i don't need sympathy...idk... i basically believe everything is good except for my test scores...

this. sucks.. especially with a friend as competition. (don't you hate that?)

You just need to demonstrate passion for learning, passion for achievement. And if the admissions officer is doing his/her job right, then they will see that.

I LOVE Penn, it is an amazing school, but if I don’t get in this time around then I won’t stress out too much about it.

I know I can continue improving myself anywhere I end up, and make the most of my time there.

(btw, I’ve noticed that high SAT scorers don’t necessarily make for the most interesting applicants, so try to show yourself separate from standardized test achievement)

You don’t suck at standarized tests. A 2070 on the SAT puts you in the 90th something percentile. There are truly people who suck at standardized tests. They receive scores signifantly lower than 2070.

We all need to stop embracing this “I must be one of the few who get into a top Ivy League school or I’m a failure” attitude. It’s so destuctive. You may not be able to get a 2350 on the SAT I, but you’re no loser and you certainly don’t have any testing disabilities. I say this not because I’ve overcome the problem – I’m as guilty as every else – but because I also need to remind myself. A part of me sees how stupid it is; the other part of me wants to be validated by attending a top school.

My uncle was telling me last week that when he was my age there was no pressure to attend an Ivy. He said that no one he grew up with even talked about it. They all wanted to attend colleges near their home (California). There was no competition between friends to see who can get into the highest ranked program; there were no rankings and no pressure. Wow. I wish it was more like that now.

I don’t even have a 2000 superscore on my SATs! Even with superscore, my SATs only total to 1990. My ACTs is only 29 too. So what are you worrying about? I would have been happy with just hitting over a 2000 on an individual SAT. I applied ED to Penn as well. I’m just hoping my passions show through in my extracurriculars and essays.

@hopefull-- mann…i wish it was still like the good ole days. no pressure…just learn for learning, ya know?

@yuenie…well, good luck to both of us!!

blahhh

Good luck! You are not alone.
