And it's so damn complicated!!! Wow...maybe it's just more complicated for me because I'm trying to get into the political communication major as a sophie (so I have to take classes that double as polycomm classes and GCRs just in case) and I'm in Honors so that's a different thing too. Does anyone else think it's ridiculously complicated?? I wish we just did it at CI with a mentor...(I know we review it with them, but at that point you have less choice I think...)

are you talking about the registration? My son didn't get into Poli Comm, and wants to reapply as a soph. Any suggestions? Is "first class" the registration site? Sorry to be so dense... but....

First Class is a tutorial about how to register, and then from there you actually do register. When you go to CI, a faculty advisor will go over your schedule with you and make sure it's okay, at which point any changes will be made (this is just what I have interpreted from reading all the stuff). First Class can be accessed through http://gwired.gwu.edu/freshmen and then clicking on Enrolling Students and clicking on GW First Class.
As far as poly comm, the SMPA is changing a lot of stuff around right now, and when I called they said nothing was for sure yet (still). So call in a couple of weeks and hopefully they'll be all set (as to which classes are REQUIRED to apply for the political communication major as a sophie).

Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to my son (who doesn't read this message board, but is on facebook). Good luck in GW!

Great info on GCRs

when choosing classes and registering, how do you take AP credit into consideration. I already know what I got on my exams last year (three 5s and one 4). Am I supposed to send these scores to GW so they can verify my scores?

For this year's AP exams, I understand there is an add/drop period for when I receive my scores.

You will need to bring your score report to CI and that is when they will assign credit and for this year's classes I would not register for any classes you feel very confident in, but only for those you feel uneasy about. There is an Add/Drop period, so either way everyone will change their schedule at least once.

GW is pretty generous with credit and you can also take a CLEP exam from the college board to cover more subject areas that you may not have taken the AP for.

It's ok not to register for a class because you're unsure about AP/transfer/CLEP credit. In my time, registration was held during CI. I knew I was getting a decent score for AP calc and decided not to register for math. In the event that I got a 3, I would have had registered for math in a different semester.

Point being, it's ok not to register for classes for which you're awaiting AP/transfer credits. Worse case scenario: you'll have to take it, but at a later time.

Let me know if you're confused by this post and need clarification.

that is sooo reassuring!! Thanks you two for the great advice!!
