So I was Rejected Today

<p>I recieved my rejection email this afternoon, which wasnt a complete surprise since I applied to Newhouse. BUT I did apply to the College of Arts and Sciences as my other choice... which I was expecting to get into. Does anyone know a what school and major that I can appeal to with the stats that I have below. Thanks</p>

<li>SAT: 1540 540 CR, 460 Math, 530 Writing</li>
<li>GPA: 3.5 current/3.2 cumulative (upward trend)</li>
<li>Rank: N/A (around top 40%)</li>
<li>I'm a Track 1, Honors student
CBS intern (Senior Year)
Student Council (President)
Mock Trial (Captain)- 3 yrs
Youth Ministry (leader)-4 yrs
Student Ambassador -3yrs
Middle States Committee - 2 yrs
World Affairs- Model Senate 1 yr
A.S.S.I.T - 1 yr
Hooks: African-American, First generation college
Strengths: Leadership, Ec's, Rec's, hooks , Hands-on experience with communications.
Weaknesses: Grades, SAT, Essay(I looked at it on the common app the other day)</li>

<p>bigtalker: express your undying love for SU and appeal to the communication and rhetorical studies major in VPA (you can minor in Newhouse)…</p>

<p>It is indeed somewhat surprising that you didn’t get in.</p>

<p>It seems a little unfair since the only major weakness on your app is the SAT score. And obviously more well-off students who aren’t first gen can prep more and receive higher scores :/. Elitist, in my opinion. But perhaps that in combo with the B average GPA (at a school perhaps not known to be particularly challenging) made them think you weren’t up to the task.</p>

<p>Anyway, good luck with your appeal, but even if you don’t get into SU, I am sure you will end up attending another great college.</p>
