So I wasn't going to apply until I helped my Cousin move in

and I loved the campus but according to our school's Naviance 12/14 were rejected (two waitlists). My stats (Superscored SATs vs Weighted GPA) are close to one of the waitlists and the other's stats are a little bit higher. So my question would be, what do my chances look like knowing about my school's poor history at getting accepted at UVA.

What do you experts think?

What kind of schools do people with GPAs and SATs like yours go to?

Well we don’t send many to out of state state schools. We had a couple of people get into UNC and UMich. Last year many kids got into Tufts and BU. We had two people get into Georgetown, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, Washington U, Brown, and MIT. So overall I would say about 10-15% of last years class got into the schools that people would consider top tier.

with your SATs I would definitely apply

I liked the title of your thread, so it pulled me in! You’ve got some very good stats. Congrats on your SAT’s.
UVA really is so hard to get into OOS, but not impossible. I’m OOS–though my GPA and rank were better than yours, my SAT’s were nothing to brag about. If you can write an essay that pulls someone in, the way your thread did to me, that’s a great start!
I really took my time with the UVA’s essays. I wrote, and rewrote, and tweaked over and over again. The UVA adcom (I believe) really prides itself on looking at the entire individual and are notorious for their essay emphasis. So, that being said, you need to really stand out in how you present yourself in your application.
Every high school in every town, every state, across the nation has their super-dooper students>>>so stats alone will only get you so far. I think you have a very nice foundation on which to build a great application. Good luck to you.
Hey, tell me, what was it about Mr. Jefferson’s grounds that you liked so much to consider it in your list of schools? Just curious!

apply! UVa staff take essays seriously into consideration. Why not? You are qualified. Take the time and send in your best effort, put some thought into it, chat people up, find out where you might contribute to campus life…and best of luck. You have a great high school record and should have some happy outcomes regardless.

Just submitted my application! and to think I was not going to apply at the beginning of the college process…

good for you! Best of luck…and spread “the love” to a few of your schools..you are obviously talented enough to get the most out of any college you end up choosing in April.
