So i went to the FSU online store

and bought me an FSU shirt and key chain ^_^

Don't forget the FSU computer store! :)

We'll be attending Preview tomorrow with our S who was admitted in the first wave (thank heavens!). Will he be able to buy a computer with the FSU discount or does he have to wait to get an FSU ID?

I am fairly certain that you can get the ID badges at preview if you have paid the 200$ admissions deposit.

Having the FSU ID would be simpler.

You'll need:

Computer (laptop) (2 GB RAM min; CD-DVD Burner, extended warranty, best hardware/speed you can afford)
Microsoft Office - (for Mac or Windows)
Printer
Printer paper and extra ink cartridges
LAN cable (extra long)
Desk security lock (always keep that laptop locked to desk) ;)
USB cable for printer (extra long)
Surge suppressor AC outlet
Carrying case for laptop
USB thumb drive (at least 1GB)
CD-Rs

Software:

Operating systems:
Windows Vista
Windows XP (Service Pack 2 at least)
Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)

Anti-virus software (Windows): Avast (free) ( avast! antivirus software - computer virus, worm and Trojan protection by ALWIL Software )
Firewall (Windows): Avast (free) or Zone Alarm (free) ( ZoneAlarm - Proactive Firewall protection with multiple layers of security that stop inbound, outbound, and program attacks )
AV for Mac: Not yet needed.

I personally didn't like the prices at the computer store....just my opinion

cheaper and better to buy it on your own...in my opinion.

If you have enough money, the new dell tablets are reallllly nice. They have really improved the text recognition and it has great battery life.
We also use the new Dell XPS notebooks, those things are amazing (and affordable too(

Our S is leaning toward a macbook. Thoughts?

My son had a $1000 HP laptop that got fried when the plane knocked out the power the other day (even though it was turned off). He went over to Best Buy where he bought a very adequate Acer laptop for $500 and this time he plugged it into a surge protector.

i am on a macbook as we speak - it is better than every other computer I have ever used. =]

Both my daughters have MacBooks. They work well and hold up well. One is going on 4-years old.
