So if a cop pulls you over for speeding...

What should you say when he asks you if you know how fast you were going or why you were stopped, and don't give me the moral response, what will give you the best chance of not getting a ticket?

From what I’ve seen, just saying you’re sorry and promising never to do it again, as well as having a clean record. My dad did something similar with me in the car, and the policeman comes back and just says, “drive home safely now, okay?”

Don’t get caught.

I would say that I was looking at what speed I was going and I know I was going within the speed limit.

Once, a cop pulled over my friend to ask her out for a cup of coffee.

She politely declined.

Well you can’t lie, because if a cop pulls you over than s/he already knows you were speeding or have a broken light or something. A cop wouldn’t randomly pull you over and say, “oh, I think you were speeding, but tell me so I’m sure.”

So if you say, “I was within the speed limit,” and the cop says, “well, I’ve got you on radar going x miles over,” how do you plan on defending yourself?

Ok…I am almost positive I would never be in that situation, therefore, if a cop did pull me over, it would be because a) it was a mistake on the cop’s part or b) I had no idea what the speed limit was because I either missed the sign or there wasn’t one around. I get honked at for going the speed limit, I don’t think I would get pulled over for something like that lol

Also, a lot of the cops around here are pretty lenient. In Ca, we have that whole go with the flow or subject yourself to an accident. They usually don’t pull you over unless you are going 20+ miles over the speed limit, in which case you definitely deserve the ticket.

Never admit how fast you were going. If the speed limit is 30 and you were going 45, say you thought you were going 30.

i would say start talking in (insert random asian/african language) and confuse the hell out of the cop. By the time you’re done talking, he’ll realize it will not be possible for him to communicate with you and thus will not give you a ticket

“i’m not sure.”

I don’t know where YOU are in Cali, but yesterday, I didn’t get ticketed, but I got a “talking to” for doing MAYBE 40 (35 when I looked) in a 30 mile zone. The next block was posted at 25 MPH, but I’m REALLY careful on that block because a kid got run down by an SUV in front of the high school on a crosswalk there. EVERYBODY knew about it.

Really? Hmm…well I was referring to the freeway, but that’s a bummer:/ When I’m on the freeway though I go about 65 to 70 and cars speed past me. I think my dad has gone 80 or so by a cop and he didn’t get pulled over. Then again, maybe they are more strict on back roads?

Last week my husband saw the guy behind him get pulled over and they where BOTH doing about 80 on the 80 in the North bay…

Hmm…I’m not sure then, maybe my dad has been lucky the past 10 years? I don’t know, it could just be where we live though. I agree with you in that you definitely have to be careful where kids are present, but on the freeway most of the cops aren’t as strict.(at least from my experience)

I always drive 75-80 on CA freeways, even with cops around. They don’t care as long as you aren’t going 100+
