About my in-state aid, I just meant for the year that I’m staying in Louisiana. I realize it wouldn’t work out of state.
I have called my state about the academic common market several times and have received no response whatsoever. (Louisiana is very hard to get in touch with…) So I still have no idea if it would work if I was a transfer student. That didn’t even occur to me that it wouldn’t.

And no, I don’t even plan to borrowing anything for my undergrad, or my master’s. I’ll work 2 jobs if I have to. I just have a fear of student loans.

Oh, I also had another question. Let’s say I’m staying in my state. Would it be possible to get state AND federal aid? The Pell Grant would pay all of my expenses, but so would my state aid. I’m just not sure if they would give me both. Again, probably a dumb question I realize.

The Pell grant is a federal entitlement grant…meaning that if you are eligible for it, you receive it. I believe you CAN get this in addition to other aid you might be receiving from your state. Hopefully someone will verify this.

The Pell Grant would pay all of my expenses

???

How much would it cost to attend your school? How much is the tuition? Would you be commuting? If not, then Pell would not cover your room and board.

Right, so I was looking around. Now, as a TN resident, it might not be good to go to a TN school without being a resident because of several factors. Personally, I’d suggest doing undergraduate in a home state. The problem with the TN thing is that I think you won’t be able to get the large amount of state scholarships that are only available to residents, which would hurt. But, anyways.

So it seems that the Pell Grant will cover the costs of tuition at UNO, which is quite good, but some of the other financial aid you can get seems rather low. There is a $900 grant available in Louisiana it says, but that is per year. There also seems to be a scholarship from UNO that you could be eligible for(needs a 25 ACT and 3.0 GPA) that can range from below 1K to 2K. I don’t know if you could get enough money to cover room and board though. However, you might also be able to get this one-

“Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) range from $200 to $4000 per academic year. Students must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours and must be eligible for a Pell Grant.”

Since you are eligible for the Pell Grant, I would assume you would be eligible for this as well. I think that with $5500 from Pell Grant, $4000 from the SEOG, $900 grant from Louisiana, and $1000 from UNO might be able to help you a lot. ALSO. Work study, this would be so good to get.

But I’m a teen from TN and could be missing things or assuming untrue things. If you’re commuting though, I don’t think there would be as much of a problem with the costs. But trying to live on campus? That’s going to be the expensive part here.

Silverocean, that is a good analysis. But, in reality, SEOG funds are so limited that at many schools the amount awarded is less than $1,000 per year.

How much would it cost to attend your school? How much is the tuition? Would you be commuting? If not, then Pell would not cover your room and board.

I don’t know exact figures, but room and board isn’t an issue for me…I live very close to campus so I’m just gonna commute. But I know that with fees and books, that would cover everything if I went to school in LA.

Thanks, Silverocean. I was thinking about the SEOG, but I didn’t know how much it was. Every little bit helps. I know it would make sense to do my undergrad in LA, but the reason why I want to go to TN is because I want a degree in music business. There’s one school that offers that here, but I’d rather not go there.
I talked to a counselor at MTSU and he said that as long as I applied for in-state residency, get a TN driver’s license, etc. I could get in state tuition.

Another question…(yeah, I’m just filled with them :P) What would happen if I took a year off? Like after my freshman year, if I took a year off, would I still be entitled to financial aid? This is really just hypothetical, but it’s something I’ve been wondering.
