Because I'm a transfer student and because I didn't start off on a path toward accounting, it works out to where ill need 150 (possibly only 146) credits for my bachelors in accounting. This kind of shot down my desire to double major or do the macc.

Now here's my question

I don't plan to work in public accounting, I'm hoping to do corporate or goverment accounting or maybe even a finance related job (or something that only requires a 40-50 hour work week, im big on work-life balance as I currently work 40 hours and do school related stuff for about another 30 hours) However, since ill have 150 credits anyway now, should take the CPA exam even if I don't plan to work in public?

Way too early to tell. It sounds like you won’t need it. But your employer just might insist on it or another designation like CMA.

It would be a good idea to ask firms with which you are interviewing if they encourage any professional licenses. This is, of course, relevant only if the job advertisement or Web site doesn’t already make note of this information.

I would recommend you get the extra 4 hours if you’re short since it would give you the opportunity to sit if you decide to do so. But that’s just my opinion.

In general, whether it would help you or not depends on what you’re looking to do exactly. There are jobs outside of public accounting that require a CPA license and there are many that don’t. It’s dependent on which you want to do.
