Is there any possibility you can sign up for more ap’s your sophomore year? because universities like Brown and Bowdoin are looking for students who challenge themselves from the start, and 1 AP isn’t much. Also try to get into a sport, so you don’t look like just another smart nerd. And as for ACT/SAT scores, start slowly studying during your sophomore year. just study once or twice a week from a review book in order to understand both what’s on the exams and how to answer the questions(specifically for the sat). If you can pull off a gpa of 4.0+ weighted, stellar test scores(21-2300), and keeping with EC’s, you should have no problem getting into any of these schools.

Don’t add a sport (or any EC) to try to make yourself attractive; it could just as easily backfire, making you look unfocused from your real interests.

Everything I currently do is a passion of mine. I also began volunteering recently and I’m racking up hours. Thanks for the advice. I don’t think I’ll look like a nerd (because I’m not). Unfortunately, the only APs I can take as a sophomore are Psychology and Economics. There weren’t any for freshman year. I will definitely try to study for the ACT because I know that’s really important. Do I need to take both? Also, for SAT IIs, do I need to do those? As for weighted GPA, my school has a screwed up system, I have a 6.0.

Thanks to all for advice. Keep it coming, I know there are other freshmen on here.

Any more people out there?

Freshman also!

Keep up your GPA and yes, start prepping for standardized testing.
Your work in Kenya is definately interesting, but it won’t be enough to get into a top school- can you join clubs like Interact and Key Club at your school?

–> Racking up volunteer hours. You may like doing it, but personally, I think it’s a waste of time. You may have 600 hours by the time you apply to college, but the person sitting next to you will have 1000. By all means, keep doing it if you love it, but remember that it doesn’t set you apart from the herd.

Rate my ecs? Thanks in advance.
