Ok, so this is my first time posting on this website and at this point I am desperate because I have majorly screwed up and I am really worried that none of my colleges except for a couple are going to accept me because I messed up my junior year and right now, overall, don't have the greatest test scores and am feeling extremely stupid. Help pleeease, I need some reassurance that I didn't completely mess up my entire college process.

Help! I'm just really worried right now that colleges will think I'm completely insane for applying, and I am beginning to think they would be right. I just don't know what to do at this point and by March will probably get ulcers from worrying.

Try 7. It's not that i'm saying i have horrible grades, im saying that I may have made a mistake applying to colleges where seven b's immediately counts me out. I'm worried that I won't be able to get into only like 3 of those on my list, and that scares me because I have a lot of family pressure riding on me saying that I have to go to one of the other ones.

No, see, your problem is, youre too caught up in the numbers game.

Maybe its overused, and maybe its cliched, and maybe I'm niave for believing it, but colleges want well rounded people. I know for a FACT UChicago is looking for FASCINATING people; not people who freak out over a 10th of GPA point. I have a 3.6 UW GPA. Yes, that means I've gotten quite a few Bs and B+'s. But you know, I'm think I'm a pretty awesome person and I still have hope about getting into Penn.

You need to have confidence in yourself and your transcript. Lacking it will show itself in an interview or essay and THATS whats going to get you rejected.

Ok, in my defense, I used to think that way, I did. Until I met someone who used to be an admissions counselor at Dartmouth and was telling me how it is a numbers game, because you are weeded out by having a high enough gpa and high enough scores, and then they'll come around to your essay, won't even bother half the time reading the recommendations and then maybe consider your interview. But, according to her, it is basically all about your gpa and your scores and half the time, she didn't even bother looking at anything else when she was accepting/ rejecting people.

I dont know...looking at some of the ED Ivy accptances / rejections both at my own school and on the CC board, I think that that Dartmouth adcom'er is in the minority.

I hope so. Maybe I am just getting too worked up, but when you are surrounded by people who all have 4.0s and having a 3.6 suddenly makes you equivalent to pond scum at my school, and getting anything below an A, let alone seven grades below an A, makes you absolutely worthless, its a lot of pressure to have to compete and keep reminding yourself that you really aren't stupid.

you shouldn't be panicking as your grade trend downwards isn't really thatdrastic. as long as you have solid recommendations/essays/etc, you might have a chance.

Oh, you are in huge trouble. Better start looking for a job quick.

Just kidding, silly. XD You don't seriously expect a couple B's will keep you out of those schools, do you? Be reassured--you have a very good chance.

Indeed, they do weed people out because of their grades, but only the ones with decidedly low grades. For example, if you were applying to Dartmouth with all Cs, I doubt anybody would come around to you essay. However, with your grades and college choices you needn't worry.

^.~ But I'll bet you knew that deep inside, didn't you? Relax, you'll do great.

My UChicago interview was pretty low pressure. It was on campus, with a grad student (less pressure now because I didn't apply).

Be ready to talk about your ECs - i would thinking making them sound as interesting as possible and making clear that you're interested in them is more important than stressing how important a role you played - if you can talk about them well it's clear you're involved - then again your ECs look awesome, so it should be really easy. Aside from that I can't remember much of what we talked about, a little politics, a little bit about U of C.

But seriously, dont worry, your senior year is 4 effing As and 2 Bs - if anything you could have another top school or two on your list. Don't expect to get in everywhere, but I'll wager you you won't end up at Drexel. (If you want to put that worrying into something constructive you could try to retake the SAT2 chem tho) Good Luck
