So is a downward trend on the SATs really bad?

Yeah I just took the SAT for the second time. And on my fourth section, which was the first math one for me, I completely froze up on two of the early problems, made dumb mistakes trying to solve them, freaked out because my answers weren't any of the options, etc.

So then like an idiot I rushed through the rest of the section not thinking clearly at all. I know for sure I missed three grid-ins and one mc on that section due to rushing (but I'm pretty sure I got everything on the other math sections right, so I'm probably looking at 670-700?)

The thing is in march I got an 800 in math. Would it negate that 800 if I had March SAT as 780CR/800M/680W but then May SAT as 780CR/670M/750W? Because it's looking like my scores are going to be in that general range.

I'm afraid my 800 seems like a fluke now >.<

Well I’m pretty sure colleges usually only put emphasis on your highest scores, and some colleges allow score choice (superscoring) so it depends on where you’re applying. By the way, why exactly are you repeating? Your grades are amazing, it’s just the writing, and really who cares about that.
Oh and a 50/54 raw score is like a 700, I’m guessing. Definitely not lower, could be 710. So no it won’t hurt you. A 670 might though. 670-800 is kind of a weird combination, unless you were intentionally not concentrating on math in order to do better on the other sections (hey, I’d do it - as soon as I get that 800 W and 800 M I’m just gonna concentrate on CR, screw the other 2)

I retook because it’s sort of embarrassing to get a 680 (with an 8 essay haha) since writing is one of main extracurriculars. Plus I had a 2260 and wanted 2300 =] Which seems sort of silly in retrospect.

I really wish you could just retake one section instead of the whole thing!

hm are you sure that section wasnt experimental? because the same thing happened to me yesterday and found out that section was in fact an experimental one. did you have the two functions that intersected to form a shaded region that you had to find the area of? if so it was experimental and i botched that section too haha

no my experimental section was writing ):
