So...Is the Secret Out on This Place?

I forget what the prompt was about… I think it had something to do with teamwork or something…

I got denied at UIUC, you’ll probably have better luck though.

I know one of them was “Discuss a cultural, social, political, or intellectual topic that you have explored beyond school and explain how it has shaped who you are today.” (<-the one I did) and I think the other one was about what would you do if you weren’t to go to school for a year after graduating HS… i think.

Edit:

Oops, the one in quotations was from 2008.

This was from 2010:

“Georgia Tech is proud to draw students from around the United States and countries throughout the world. This unique compilation of academic interests, personal backgrounds, and various life experiences creates an exciting and inspiring educational mix. Given your personal background, what would you hope to learn and contribute through becoming part of this sort of campus community?”

Btw, I just figured my GPA in a Georgia school:

Freshman Year: 3.8
Sophomore Year: 4.0

Junior Year: 4.1

3.97 & ~2100 SAT. In?

You got denied at UIUC? What were your stats?

Well, on a normal system Unweighted System (using the GT scale):

Freshman Year: 3.0 GPA / 4.0
Sophomore Year: 3.85 GPA / 4.0
Junior Year: 3.75 GPA / 4.0
Senior Year (as of now): 3.67 GPA / 4.0

Average GPA:
3.57 (w/ Fr Yr.) / 4.0
3.76 (w/o Fr Yr.) / 4.0

SAT: 670 M / 650 CR / 570 W (I only took the test once)
ACT Composite: 30 (M+CR)

I also have URM status (Pacific Islander) at GT, but I didn’t get URM status at UIUC.

Gotcha…Brutal man…if a 27-31 ACT is average and you had a strong upward trend on your GPA, I’d say you should have gotten in. Did you say you were from CT? Out of curiosity, what county?

Yeah, OOS - Connecticut, New Haven County.

Ohhh cool. I’m Hartford county.

well this year things have really gone up… did you see the average GPA … it was like 3.91 or something… so I guess you can be sure here that they are taking in people with really high GPAs and SAT score.

In state residents have a better edge.

Also, I don’t think it’s all about stats…GeorgiaTECH right now is trying very hard to diversify their institution so if you aren’t the usual Georgia Tech and majoring in engineering, you also have a better edge as well. Don’t just half-ass your essay because you think it’s an easy college…write a sincere one.

GPA definitely doesn’t matter…my UW was 3.5 and I was accepted. I’m an international student as well, which I don’t think is a positive. (for most colleges it isn’t)

But, my SAT was 2350. I think 800 in Math definitely gives you a leg-up. Also, I know plenty of other students who were accepted with significantly lower SAT than the average but then again…they were girls.

Yeah, I saw that.
That’s interesting because I got accepted with a 26 on the ACT
but I guess since GT only looks at Math Science and Writing

ACT
MATH: 29
English: 32
Writing: 08

My GPA was a 3.71 unweighted as of 1st semester Junior year and I didn’t even take AP classes until this yr…? That’s leaving me wonderingggg. I guess I’m kind of lucky, huh?
I’m an international applicant but have lived in the US all my life basically.
