Today I tried to drop the advanced precalculus class I'm in at my community college but they said it's too late to do so, and I have to tough it in and complete the remainder of the course (the final is this thursday). I know I'm not going to get anything better than a C. How will this look to the UCs and other colleges? I'm going to be a senior...that C is the last grade they will have seen before I apply.

CC classes are supposed to be notoriously easy from what I've heard. But I live in NJ so things may be different in CA. I would advise that you just request that the CC grades don't be added to your school transcript (I'm pretty sure you can iron that out with your GC). If the grade eventually has to go on your transcript, it depends how good your other grades are. If this is your first C and the rest of your grades are A's and B's, you're in good shape. If it's like your fourth C, idk.

It depends on the community college but in CA, it's also considered easy. College will ask for classes taken at community college even if your high school does not report it.

How is it considered easy if the class average is 67%? It's not easy at all, particularly because the professor cannot teach math if his life depended on it. Even then, I don't see how community college classes are supposed to be "notoriously easy."

It's common perception that is not always applying to most case. But you must explain that in your college application.

It's also the same common perception that an Ivy univesity is where you get the best education. Why Cornell? If you can't get A at 2-year community college what makes you think you can survive at Cornell. There are plenty of bad professors and TA at some of these colleges.

Wow. Would you guys think two Bs at a CC would hurt if you're applying to top tier schools?

It is a common misconception, but I would imagine only for students and people who don't really know. It's true some of the time, too. But, seriously, don't you think universities for the most part know that CCs aren't all dandy and easy?

I got two Bs, that I wasn't nervous about until just now...
