IU waitlisted me last weekend. I have decent enough stats for IU. 3.3 GPA, 1700 SATs, few, but meaningful ECs including overseas comm. service, VERY top public hs in PA, etc. I got my app. in very early. Not sure what major I put down, but I think I put down marketing.
I know I'm not a direct admit to KSB, but I dont think that should keep me from getting in. I just sent in 1st Q grades to IU, I got a 3.7 which looks pretty good coming from me. Upward trend in GPA and all that. Should I be ok? My cousin just got in with equal SATs and a little better GPA. I'm a little worried, but I think I should be ok. Thoughts? Thanks!

Is your 3.3 uw or w? What was your rank?

It was more or less the same uw/w because I dont take all honors so there wasnt too much of a difference. School doesnt rank, but around top 45%. School is insanely competitive. We have ~15 people tied for Val right now.

You'll probably get in, but just in case what are your other options?

I applied EA to UMass-Amherst which I should have no problem getting into and to Temple U. which I have 120% chance of getting into since my dad's an alum and I know the dean. I also applied Early Decision to Boston U.

Okay atleast you have options, good luck with Boston and Indiana....

Thanks bro. Same to you. You applied to some damn good schools yourself. I just hope I get into BU/Indiana. BU is an easier track for me to get into their BSchool and Indiana is more difficult. KSB is pretty hard to get into. :/

That's very strange. I didn't know they had a waitlist. I had a friend in my class last year who said IU "waitlisted" him as well, and I didn't believe him 1) Because he's not very bright and 2) Because they say on their Common Data Set that they don't waitlist.

He ended up not getting in, trying to transfer actually. Your case is strange. Your SAT scores definitely fit the average accepted applicant. Last year they accepted 84.6% of their applicants, so I have no idea why the waitlist came in, even if the GPA isn't really a 3.3, those test scores are fine.

I think there is a good possibility that you get in off the waitlist. Only 37.4% of the accepted applicants actually enroll. There will be spots.

Thanks A2. Makes me feel better. It I guess was essentially a waitlist.

Here's the message:

Status Summary
After an initial review of your academic credentials, the admissions committee must delay making a decision on your application. Applications for which we are delaying a decision will be reviewed a second time, no later than mid-December. At that time we will review your application while taking into account the strength of our applicant pool. In the meantime, do not hesitate to send additional grade reports and new test scores from your senior year.

It is weird. I know IU isnt the most difficult school to get into and I thought I would have no problem. I guess after sending them a 3.7 I should be fine, but I know people get in with worse. I hope they read my essay because it was pretty good. Also, the fact that I go to an insanely competitive school shouldve worked to my advantage.

Jpod,

Make sure you let Indiana know how interested you are in getting in off the waitlist. Usually, follow-up letters stating this and asking for more information on how to improve your application status helps a lot in getting this "waitlist" status moved over to "accepted". Send them the latest grade reports, and see if you can retake any SAT or ACT score if that would help your case.

In other words, keep pleading your case--this really makes a difference.

Good luck.

3.7 1st Q sent. I'm sending a letter as soon as I get home from FL monday. Thanks Cal.

JPod, that's not being placed on a waitlist. That's being deferred, temporarily. You're in much better shape than a waitlist. They never once said that you are being placed on a waitlist, rather, they are delaying your decision and want to see how their applications turn out/how your grades are. Just a typical deferral.

So it isnt really a big deal? Should I still bother with a letter? IU is my 2nd choice besides my ED school.

Dude, bother with a letter. Better safe than sorry. Still let them know you're interested...

Batoff, get outta here :P

Yes, do whatever you can. Don't just take it as "oh, okay". They saw your application once and said "ehhhhhhhh". Make them change their minds. Send a letter of interest. That should put you over the top.

Doing that today. Thanks A2!

Sent an email directly to the director of admissions. Lets see what happens :P

I didnt get rejected...According to A2, I wasnt even waitlisted. I should be ok.
