So I've been brushing my teeth once a month or so for the past four years.

Without piling on the absurdity of your situation:

It takes about 21 times to establish a habit. You have to take a month and somehow commit to brushing your teeth twice a day (yes, twice) everyday. It's like when you get used to exercising, your body feels sluggish and "fat" if you don't. The same is true with teeth - your mouth will start to feel awful.

Unless you live a completely natural and organic lifestyle without sugar and such, not brushing is impossible for the foods we consume today. I just met a woman in college who never brushes her teeth. She was chewing gum and one fell out. She finally went to the dentist and he had to yank a couple and said that if she didn't get every tooth capped, they would be gone in 5 years. She's like 19.

You're an adult now. Time to grow up.

haha funny thread

Google "gingivitis".

i feel sorry for your girlfriend. if you have one anyway. lol

this seems sorta trollish... :p

Is anyone's troll sensor going off?

And if this is true, that's putrid.

EDIT:

Didn't see your post ^^ Glad someone shares my senses :P

omg ew, people don't brush their teeth like EVER? lol i guess chewing gum helps...somewhat

Ewww!
Seriously are college students that busy with work tht they forget brushing?
Future reminder for the class of 2012 :)

I love all the people who just say "ewwww, you're disgusting, brush your teeth you moron."

I'm sure the OP finds it helpful to be lectured about something he already knows. Great advice.

Steelerfan513,
U are right. I am sorry OP. I do hope u get better. Brushing ur teeth will be painful at this point also with bleeding and all, so try to get a softer brush maybe and professional help. Avoid too hot and cold drinks, chocolates, hard to chew food.

I'm not sure if you're trolling or not. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. So I'll mention 4 things.

Get a dentist. Being able to have good teeth is priceless.

Sensodyne toothpaste will help with sensitivity in your teeth. At least at the dentist I go to, it's the one he recommends to all his patients.

Mouthwash. This will go a long way to fighting against cavities, gingivitis, and any other bacterias in your mouth.

Floss. It really isn't that hard. I don't do it on a regular basis I'll admit but I do it as often as I can even if it's just one time a day. You'll be surprised at the food that can get stuck in between your teeth and gums.

It's recommended you brush three times a day. Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. Well i think for all things it's recommended you do it three times in general.

I like to do it two times a day. Sometimes a third time in the evening if my teeth are bothering me because of food that I feel i stuck in my teeth. I'll admit, SOMETIMES I too feel too tired and will only brush in the morning, but not at night. However I have to be extremely exhausted and in those situations more often then not I just remind myself of the cavities I've had in the past. That gets me up in a second.

With all that said, dude it's the 21st century. If you don't have dental hygiene, I don't even want to imagine your body hygiene and other habits. Care for thyself and others will respect you. Hygiene is a part of caring for yourself.

wow..i thought this was a joke. do you know how bad that is for your health? (physically, orally, and *socially) Gross!
but definitely brush twice a day! even if your gums bleed, work through it. just don't brush as hard. and dentist *definitely
. even if it's embarassing, you don't want your teeth to fall out. (not joking) good luck.

oh dear.. I thought most people brushed 2-3 times a day. o.O

and do go see a dentist. people used to dye from dental complications.

Are you Japanese or Korean by any chance? The reason I ask is I know some Japanese and Korean kids who brush their teeth maybe once a week max.

Uh ***, why don't you brush your teeth, dude?
I can't sleep or function unless I've brushed and flossed thoroughly. Having gunk in there is just nasty.

Seriously, you need medical attention. Bad teeth leads to more serious health risks. Google them and make a dentist appt. asap!

scratch that, 5-7 minutes tops, if you floss far too slowly. it should take about 2-3 minutes to brush.

if you don't take care of your teeth frequently enough, they WILL bleed, no matter what you do. plaque and bacteria make your gums tender, so if you haven't flossed in ages, you can't escape the bleeding. and you probably won't be able to for a good month or two, either. trust me, i didn't brush effectively or floss at all until i went to a good dentist who took the time to tell me how to brush right and floss well and quickly. but after a while, your gums get stronger and they bleed less...honestly, you're just going to have to deal with it for a while. it's not worth getting worse whole-body illnesses from poor dental hygiene (which happens) because you're too lazy to brush and floss.

I don't get to sleep at a reasonable time. As in one night I'll sleep at 7 and the next night I'll sleep at 5 am, and most of the time I just fall asleep on the floor doing homework. So obviously I don't remember to brush my teeth. Heck, I don't even remember to take my medicine the same time every day. And what makes it worse is it's been four years since I've regularly brushed my teeth, so every time I do it it feels like a new, exciting experience as opposed to just habit.

Thanks to those who have given advice :)

(Oddly I've never had a cavity. But now my teeth are starting to hurt a bit so I'm getting worried.)

^ i can't say that's a valid excuse. i'll get back from a...um, long night anywhere from 4-6 and i'll still remember to at least brush, and floss even if i feel so compelled. as for longer academic nights, i've had all-nighters where i still brush.

whatever the case, there's nothing stopping you from brushing at 11AM, 3PM, 6PM or whenever's convenient for you. you just need to make a habit out of it...no other way really. it has to be to the point where you can feel that your teeth get unclean. if you don't get that feeling, then you're probably in a bad way...kinda like saying you don't need to shower because you can't smell yourself...

I laughed out loud as well. So you never have oral sex, right?

"kinda like saying you don't need to shower because you can't smell yourself..."

Oddly, that happened to me too. I didn't believe I smelled bad until I started showering every other day instead of once a week and realized I felt nicer. =|
Maybe I should just brush my teeth every time I shower.

(It's such a silly problem, I know. My mom's been telling me this for the past four years. But hey, it does happen. =/ My mom also told me to shower, so that was probably why I resented it.)

P.S. I feel I've hit a milestone today. By brushing my teeth both today and yesterday, I've managed to use up the tiny tube of toothpaste they gave us at freshman orientation. Now I can progress to real toothpaste! xD
