So, just want to get some background here

Frankly, I have no idea my shots of getting into my top choice (Dartmouth). I know this year is supposed to be the absolute peak of college applications, and I'm just wondering what kind of shot I have:
3.99 un-weighted GPA
8 AP classes (9 Tests)
2310 SAT's (one time)
800 Chemistry SAT II
770 Math II SAT II
2-Time Varsity Cross Country Captain, ranked top 3 in the State of Oregon.

Is that enought to jump off the page and get a spot?

"Is that enought to jump off the page and get a spot?" No one here can answer that. However, given your metrics, you're completely viable given the rest of the applicant pool. You are definitely strong.

Your chances based on that, are as good as anyone else's. Best of luck to you.

you realize that scores and grades do not get you a spot at top colleges, right? A lot depends on what your recs say about you and how well you can convince the adcoms in your essays to take you out of the pool of hundreds of bright kids that excel in a sport. What you've presented so far doesn't rule you out, makes you in fact a competitive candidate. But there's more to the story, and the tipping factors are going to be things nobody here can evaluate.

BTW if you apply ED you have a better chance, Dartmouth or anywhere for that matter. Don't do this if financial aid is important, though.

Have you talked with the D distance coach? Is it your team or you that is #3 in Oregon? You should have a good chance as a recruited athlete. PM me if you like.

Oregon residency, along with your outstanding profile, should make you an unusually strong candidate for admission to Dartmouth College. Your background makes you a near perfect fit for Dartmouth. And, yes, your profile does "jump off the page" in the context of applying to Dartmouth. As a side note, ED will help you at Dartmouth, but, contrary to an earlier post, does not necessarily help at all schools as individual circumstances vary widely. ED/ EA does demonstate interest and commitment--which is a positive, but it can hurt some apps which would be strengthened by later grades and achievements. This is especially true at a school like Northwestern that does not defer ED applicants; it is either an accept or reject.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm personally in the top 3 in the State, I have been called/had a lot of contact with the coach, and my recommendations have everything except the part where my teachers want to take me home and make me their child. And I'm applying ED. But it was very helpful to hear the opinions. Thanks.

mhminer:

You already had a very good shot. If you're a recruited athlete, your chances of getting in are extremely good.

Just thought I'd post an update; I was accepted ED, so I'll be attending next fall.

Congrats....!

Can I just say that, looking at your stats, you are awesome. :) Congrats on the acceptance!

Congrats...

oh, and touch the fire
