I know these questions could have been answered by the admissions office. I've asked them sooo many already, so I thought I'd ask here.

What is the housing deadline for students accepted from the waitlist? I know the enrollment deadline is May 17, so shouldn't the priority housing deadline be a bit later too?

How many international students are accepted annually? I know 70-80 attend.

I already sent my financial docs while applying. Will I get my I-20 with the admission package?

Do all the dorms cost exactly the same? UNC says my total cost will be 36000, including meals and housing. I haven't seen the housing application itself yet.

Am I supposed to plan out my courses BEFORE I go for orientation?

More questions soon, undoubtedly.

If I’m looking to double major in comp engineering and business, will I have to start taking all the prereqs in the first year? I suppose I’ll have less flexibility to experiment, perhaps with a history or psychology course.

My orientation is on August 19th. What date would you recommend I reach UNC? Will I stay in the dorm that I’ve been allotted for the usual academic session?

I’m going to opt for a random roommate… are there more horror stories than happily-ever-afters if someone opts for a random?

No, some without air conditioning are cheaper, although I think those are getting AC very soon, so it may be a non issue. Singles are more expensive.

No. Most people plan their classes at CTOPS and then change them in the add-drop when they get to campus. CTOPS is sort of your “pre-planning” for schedules

Start off with your pre-reqs regardless of your major. Most people switch majors several times, so try to get as many basic classes done as soon as you can. Also, at our Carolina connect day, they told us that double majors “should really only happen organically.” (IE they should just sort of “happen” otherwise it’s hard to schedule everything and still have enough flexibility to take electives).

If it were me, I’d rather fly into Raleigh on the 18th, spend the night in a hotel, and then go to UNC on the 19th, but you could easily fly in on an early morning flight on the 19th, if need be. It’d just be more stressful. You’ll probably stay in your actual room.

I’m going to opt for a random roommate… are there more horror stories than happily-ever-afters if someone opts for a random? They jury is still out on whether choosing your roommate or going with random is better.

Thank you, those answers were very helpful Artemis.

One more… Suites cost as much as the hall ones? What’s the difference? Which one would you recommend?

Also, I’m planning to major in comp engineering. I should aim for a dorm in North Campus, yes?

I’m so confused about housing. <_<

Go to the UNC housing website, it will answer all of your questions.

I’ve narrowed it down to 2 questions now, which the housing website does not answer:

On the rates website, is cost for suite and the normal room thing same?

Whats the difference b/w the two?

Ah, I see. And also, Granville has a separate application, and the other dorms have another app. How does that work? Should I submit both?

Nope, you have to pick one.

If I don’t submit the normal housing app, and just the Granville app, and Granville fills up (like, if there’s no space left) then I’m sort of stranded…

Granville never fills up and is more expensive than regular housing.

If I’m not wrong, Granville is maybe $500 more expensive?

For a normal dorm: 5450 + 2505 (meal plan) = 8000 per year (approx)

Granville is 8450.

Briefly, what are the +/- s of Granville vs the rest?

Please disregard, I used the search function, like I should have originally.

I’m an international though, so I’m not sure about Granville. =/

Edit: I dont plan on joining a frat either.

If you’re out of state/international, Granville is a very bad idea.

This seems to be the general consensus on this thread. I won’t apply to Granville then. Thank you for informing me, a few more days and it might have been too late. =)

If I have any more questions, I’ll post. Again, thanks for the replies corey, Artemis.
