So many taboo essays, so what should I write?

Hey guys, I was just looking around and saw this list of essays that one shouldn't attempt. Now I'm perplexed.

What are the 'good' topics to approach?

I was planning to write this reflection about my community service trip, but guess it's not a good idea huh...

Where did you find a list of essays one shouldn't attempt? What are the taboo topics?

There are few if any "taboo" topics imo.

It's not the topic, it's what you do with the topic.

Choose the topic that allows you to be personal, detailed, honest and revealing. To write something that only you could write.

I've read excellent essays on pretty much all of the so-called taboo topics, essays by students who received great acceptances.

do u mind reading my commonapp essay?

Petepete28, it's not a good idea to post your commonapp essay. See the thread in "College Admissions" by sheeprun titled "Posting Essays and other Sensitive Information".

Petepete28, I just noticed that CC has a few threads relating to having other members review essays. There's a Consolidated List of Essay Readers and also a discussion of how to safely use advice from CC members without getting ripped off.
