I've looked at Matlab | UC Berkeley IST but I still don't understand the instructions.

Since I've never had Matlab on my computer before, what steps do I use to get the license? How do I get a license?

Thanks.

“At this time, the license has not been extended to students for use on their personal computers. However, students may download MatLab on University-owned machines.”

You can’t get it, yet.

[STC ~ Downloads](http://stc.berkeley.edu/downloads.htm)

Ctrl+F ‘Matlab’.

As a substitute, you can try [GNU Octave](GNU Octave) .

if you can get a job from the school (grader, etc.), you can get all the programs on the IST list you want for free.

yeah I currently use Octave and it’s great, but if Matlab was free, I would have still wanted it. Thanks guys!

And I am doing undergrad research this semester so maybe I’ll ask my prof.
