So my EA deadlines were Nov. 1 and Nov. 15....my Teacher Recs were sent today......

So yeah I had a teacher do recs for two schools I was applying to...I gave him everything around mid Sept...

I guess it was my fault that I didn't check up on him to see if he did it...but I went to him today and he totally forgot.

I got an email from one of the schools saying they were missing a tech rec, and then when I went to ask him today...he admit he forgot it...

So what now?

Does this mean I'll be thrown into the RD pool (Which I think will probably we the worse case senerio)...but will they penelize me for not getting it in on time....about a month and a half-month late?

Thanks.

Yes, it is your fault. You asked him to write the recommendation.

(That’s a joke my H always says. When something I did was really my fault, he’ll say it was his fault. He married me.)

Okay, here’s the grown-up part of the application you might have missed: the part that shows the status of your application. It’s right there in the common app. It shows when the recs were sent electronically. I’m sure the schools also had an area where you could check to see if they received everything. Usually they give you a user name and passcode. Not only that, but when you get an email saying the college is missing something, bells should go off and you should act.

All right, done deal. Now what’s the damage? Almost certainly the school has already made a decision. If you’ve been deferred, you’ll have something to send them. If they rejected you or accepted you, they probably did it w/o waiting. Move on. Most likely though, you’re ready w/ other apps. Be sure you give your teacher plenty of time and follow-up.

One of my D’s letters of rec got lost in cyberspace. The high school had a record of when it was sent. My D called the university, and they told her it would not be held against her because it was not something she could control. The letter was re-sent, after the deadline. The Office of Admissions was very nice to her. Of course she hasn’t heard if she was accepted yet. Not sure if that helps, but they told her that she was OK since the app was received by the November 1st due date. Call the school and ask. At least you’ll have your answer.
