Hey so I just finished my first quarter of college, and received a B+, B-, C+, and an A-. Overall equalling a 3.0 flat GPA. I go to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and very reputable CA Public University. And I have aspirations to either go on to grad school or law school. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not trying to be offensive, but I’ve always thought that a 3.0 was just an okay gpa; you’re not doing a very bad job, but you’re not doing a particularly great one either. If you want to get into a top-tier law school, you’ll have to pull it up, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem since this is just your first quarter in college.

For your first quarter, a 3.0 is fine, but you definitely want to work harder from now on.

Thanks, I totally agree.

It’s not bad, but it’s not spectacular either. Just keep working and try and get the highest grades you can to go to the best grad/law school you can get into :)

Make that C+ and B- into a B+ and you’ll be golden.

Did you do good?

From your grades you did well.

But you need to work on your english :-)

Kei

P.S. Don’t worry about the marks you get; work hard, learn well, and the grades will come.

You did good. Keep up the good work you good-doer!

Well, what classes are you taking? That’s also a big thing to consider when looking at your grades… I mean for my english class, a 3.0 is an 85… while in my biology class a 3.0 is an 80, but at the same time my biology class is very difficult and you are required to pour half of your soul into the subject to even consider getting a grade higher than an 85…

smski brings up a very good point! At my school in subjects like physics and calc, you’re doing really well if you have a 70. In A&P, a 75 is doing really well too! In history, it’s not hard to get an 80+ though.

Grades are fine ! Try to get nothing lower then a B next quarter/semester. Don’t be afraid to go to office hours/tutoring! They are really helpful and will do wonders for your classes~!

Two comments:

1) Not a bad GPA for your first quarter at college. However, keep in mind that your GPA is fairly average, especially for your major (assuming you aren’t an engineer).

2) Why are asking random ppl on a college forum whether your GPA is “good.” Good grades for one person may be horrible grades for another.

you should really have a 3.5+ if you’re looking at any decent grad/professional programs, even if you’re an engineer. those grades aren’t good
