Interviews do not really matter in the admissions process? She said she was told they are not really taken into account...what? Is this true?

yep. this has already been established

in another thread? do you have a link? or care to elaborate?

Depends on how you define "don't matter." It's true that the interview doesn't have much weight in Yale admissions. Compared to your transcript, EC's, and awards, it is somewhat negligible. That being said, however, an interview can help tip the scale in a student's favor if he/she is on the borderline between an acceptance and rejection. It's best to prepare for it regardless of whether you think it's important or not, because it may (in rare circumstances) just mean the difference between a thick envelope and a thin one.

BTW, the importance of the interview (or lack thereof) at Yale and some other Ivies is a pretty well-known fact; you'll find plenty of threads all over CC evidencing this.

Everything you wanted to know about Yale interviewing

Has your son heard yet from an interviewer? My son has not and he's had all his interviews at other schools.

Whoever tells you interviews are of negligible matter are lying. Colleges take interviews just as importantly has job interviews, anyone who knows how important job interviews know what I'm talking about. If the interviewer likes you, you're a shoo-in if the interviewer dislikes you, you'll be rejected summarily. This is the standard procedure at all ivies. mimk6, you said your son was not yet offered an interview? That's because interviews are awarded based on how much the school wants you to attend...the better applicants get offered interviews first while the bottom of the barrel won't even be offered one. Please, none of this misinformation on interviews on CC. kthxbye

Just kidding. Ivies don't really care much about interviews, the other posters advice has been right on. :)

My interviewer for another school outright said that the interview didn't really matter.

Because most of the applicants are pretty impressive, I doubt that even a very good interview could help you that much. A typical interview will probably not make much difference at all. However, I'm convinced that a REALLY bad interview could hurt you. If you insult the interviewer, make a racist remark, state that you don't really want to go to the school, admit that you lied on your application, etc....I think the interview would make a big difference.
