My dad basically said I have to go to UCI, even though I personally wanted to CCC transfer to Cal or UCLA. I still want to transfer though, and I know its much more difficult to transfer from UC-UC, but I think if I know what to do before I get there, as in have a plan for transfer, it will be easier. So, from anyone who has done a UC-UC transfer, what do I need to know?

...

How old are you?

jaw drop I hate when parents do this. I really hope this isn't a pride issue on your parents' part. They need to realize what a smart, mature son/daughter they've raised... one that recognizes the benefits of doing two years at a CCC. sigh.

Here's what I would do: draw a table showing how much money you will save your dad by going to two years of CCC-->Cal versus 4 years of UCI.

Sorry, I know that doesn't help you that much. =/

i'd like to know too.
the main reason i want to do the UC to UC transfer instead of the CCC to UC is that if i don't make it in, im screwed. plus the fall 2007 transfer stats for UCSB to UCLA says 39.81% acceptance and from Foothill (my nearby CCC) is 50.22%

Ouch, overbearing parents are terrible, are they threatening to stop paying for college if you go to a CCC, or what?

Edward04- I assume OP is 18, a senior in high school?

Lol, this thread took off fast.

It's because we're all so full of the wisdom that comes with going to 2 years of CCC :]

That, and I'm just waiting for my friend to get home. hahaha

Me too... Just 3 three more months.

Yea, they did threaten to stop paying if i do that.Actually, they threatened to kick me out of the house...though I'm sure they're bluffing. However it would hurt my pride to stay in the house after they said that, so I would probably end up working and going to CCC and paying for an apartment, which would be really difficult.

That's very ignorant if your dad is still going by the old stigma that CC sucks. It's quite the contrary today.

I'll tell you what you should do:

1) Man up and join the military, earn the GI Bill and pay for college yourself (what I did, and I get $1100 in my bank account every single month like clockwork up to $39k)

2) Man up and tell him to take a flying leap, get a job, get a ton of financial aid and pay for school yourself.

3) Tell him you're gay. I don't know why, but I have a feeling that would really p i s s him off.

Good luck!

Just don't do number 3 in conjunction with number 1, you may run into a few problems.

^ lol. I met plenty of gay service members when I was in, and everyone I knew couldn't care less. At least that is what I experienced. But yeah, Clinton's policy is still in place.

metalhedd165, I do want to say I'm proud of you though. It's very unique that someone your age can have the wisdom and foresight to choose the CCC route over UC when it is best for them and their goals. Most teens suffer tremendously from peer pressure and would choose a UC any day over CCC, even if it wasn't the right decision. So props to you!

Don't ask, don't tell.

On a side note...don't you think that's kind of naive to use "gay" as a joke? C'mon, that's high school. We're mature now.

I don't think you understood the joke, at most he was taking a swipe at someone else for not being tolerant of homosexuality --playing on the middle-American/stubborn dad stereotype.

well you have two options, either go with ur parent's choice or go with your choice. You have to know the consequences of going your way though, because your parents will probbaly do something that will impede you from going to cal or ucla. However, if you really wanna go there, take out loans and do everything with the best of your ability to achieve your goal.

ROFL @ ek's post

Hm, well I've been thinking. UC-UC transfer is hard, but how is UC-private transferring? Because honestly, I know i can do better than Irvine. The only thing that kept me out of UCLA and Cal is sophomore year when my brother was dying of meningitis first semester and in the second I jumped off a roof and tore a ligament. These factors made my gpa suffer greatly. Otherwise i have above average SATs and APs, and I see people that I know I'm better than at my hs get into Cal and LA when I don't, just because their GPA is more consistent. Anyway, the people from my hs going to Irvine...aren't quite....brilliant. So, this whole thing is mostly a pride issue. I know I can do better than Irvine, but my parents have judged me by my sub par GPA (3.8) and rejection from UCLA and Cal; they don't think I can do any better. They think I'm using my brother's sickness as an excuse, rationalization, when in reality I had much better grades in 11th grade than 10th and I had more than double the amount of APs. Anyway, sorry, I guess I started venting. Back to the point: Would it be better to try to transfer to a private instead of a higher UC?

Thanks Ektaylor. At least someone got it. O_o

Thanks. That was so productive.
