My younger son only wanted to apply to ONE school - state flagship school, formula admission, we knew he’d get in. He did the app, and all the essays for the scholarship and honors college part. But, he didn’t want to apply anywhere else.

Then, he relented to letting me apply to a few others for him (EZ online apps that required little effort on my part)…and his essays only had to be slightly tweaked to fit other schools.) It literally only took me one afternoon to do the other 4 applications. If the apps had not been super EZ, and if they had required me to actually write the essays, I wouldn’t have done it.

He got accepted to all and ended up with over $250,000 in scholarship offerings…LOL His high school (private) loves to announce students’ scholarship offers, and he ended up getting the second highest amount in his class.

Like someone wrote above… “It’s always nice to have some options, I think.”

He did end up going to his first choice, but having the other options did make him stop and consider them. :)

I know that some here would probably be aghast at the thought of some mom doing extra applications…but I know that I’m not the only one. On another thread, a mom said that she quietly did an online app for the same university that my son now attends…and her child ended up going there…and loving it.
