As the title says, I will have the opportunity to take the ACT in February (junior) at no charge. I am already preparing for the SAT, which will be my main test. Is there any reason I shouldn't just go for it with the ACT? It seems to me that I have nothing to lose...

UPDATE: This is the ACT w/out writing. I would definitely take the SAT as well; is there any problem?

If your looking for upper tier colleges, you should take the act with writing. Ask the school if you can pay the extra writing fee and take it at the same time

^ It isn’t offered on that date, according to the information I received. Would there be any value in taking this and then presenting both SAT (w/writing) and ACT (w/out writing) scores?

^No, I think you have to have the ACT with writing for it to count:/

Okay, thanks. I think I might do it anyway just to get a feel for the test - if I do far better than on the SAT, I can always take it again with writing.

if it is free you should take it, even without writing, to see how you do.

and check with the schools you are interested in to see if the ACT writing part is required

Cool idea, yeah there’s no drawback in taking it.

Definately take the ACT even if offered without writing; you can always retake the ACT with writing and still use your highest composite score from both, as the writing section is NOT included in your composite score…however, it does appear on your official score report in the writing section and is scored out of 12 possible points.

Okay, I’ll do it :)
