So my school just replaced AP

With IB. Should I shoot for an IB Diploma(which includes 150 hours of community service & an extended essay.) Or take all honor courses/make an effort to self study ap. It's just that i've been told by so many people that they regret taking IB and the 60% drop out rate kind of scares me.

Opinions?
Thanks in Advance.

hm... what year are you? that could make a difference for the 150 hours/essay. if you have time to complete those, i'd say go for it. if you're a senior and you already have a crazy schedule, i'd say stick to honors and try to self-study for APs. it also depends on the courses you're planning on taking/self-studying, since some are alot more difficult to do on your own.

Take IB classes, but not the IB diploma. Many of them are comparable to similar APs, and it is not a diploma-or-nothing thing. Many people i know doing full IB see the CAS hours and extended essay as nothing more than a pain in the ass, not an extreme workload.

Thanks for the replies, im a sophomore, so I think i'll be able to get the hours in if I try. IB diploma would look nice on my college app though, but is it worth the time and effort invested?

From my experiences, no, but thats a question you need to answer yourself, its different for everybody

You can take IB courses and test only in certain areas. You have nothing to lose by trying out the IB program. If you do not like it, then just drop to honors later. You can take a combination of IB and honors or just take IB in the humanities. There are also different levels of testing. For my son, not worth it, but many people love IB more than AP! You should try a class and see if you like the program.

Well... half fail the AP tests... come on...

"Wish not for a lighter load but a stronger backbone"

Teddy Roosevelt said something like that.
