As a followup to an earlier posting last month, my daughter applied ED1 to NESCAC school as a student athlete and was deferred, even though coach literally promised a tip to her...

Coach finally emailed 30 days after deferral letter and stated "I dont knmnow what happened to her appication, I thought oit was a done deal"...Offered to try and push for her for RD, however also told her that the chances were slim, even though her grades and scores were very strong.

Daughter decided to apply ED2 to her 2nd choice school in the midwest and coach was amazing. Walked her application through to admissions, kept us involved in every step and emailed us the days of the decison and told us that the process was going smoothly.

Admission letter came 1 week later and we are all thrilled. It just goes to show us that people are sometimes not what they seem in initial meetings and that trust should be tempered with eyes wide open.

Agreed. But congratulations to your daughter on her acceptance, her hard work, her committment to her sport and her wonderful life ahead. And congratulations to you for raising such a fine daughter.

So glad to read this news, finnsdad. I hate it when kids are raised to trust the word of others and then receive a harsh lesson, especially in something as important as this. Your ability to help her move forward quickly is commendable. I hope you'll check this board for questions on this topic. Your experience will help others, I'm sure.

As far as I know, you've never named the first school on the open forum, and I think that's good, but you might consider revealing it in PMs to other athlete families in your child's sport. In my opinion, that's the price this coach should pay for putting your family through this.

Same thing happened to my D.
But she is actually relieved because she wasnt 100% sure of her ED1 school.
Now she is thrilled with her ED2, me too!

Each school is different. Some schools have ED1 and ED2. Some have neither. Some have just ED1. The due dates can be different too. It was all a learning experience for Hus. and I.
